Don't necessarily agree with this. Sometimes its better to bow out gracefully than to become a fraction of what you once were.

Steve is still actively working but not in the front anymore apparently. Although I would love to hear him again, there must be a reason for it. Maybe it was (is) just time for him to retire from lead vocals.
