Former Journey frontman Steve Perry says that the secret to the band's success was that they simply kept moving forward, leaving no time to second-guess themselves. During the Perry's initial run with the band between 1977 and 1986, the band recorded nine albums -- including one soundtrack and one live collection.
Perry explained that when recording such classic albums as Evolution, Departure, Escape, and Frontiers, the band simply kept their eye on the finish line while in the studio: "You have to get in, do it, get out, and leave it alone, for a minute -- move on. Otherwise, creatively, we will re-digest, re-think, re-do, and really believe in our hearts we can do better. And sometimes we can. It won't necessarily be better -- it'll be different. And some times that is better -- sometimes it's not."
