What's up with Neal?

Postby MotherCitay » Sat Dec 08, 2012 7:37 pm

Is there a story behind this odd performance of WCN? Was the studio sound just bad cos it comes across like a 'lovers rage' between Neal & Steve with Neal's cock up on the guitar and a 'backing' vocalist sounding louder than the lead singer. Deliberate actions?

In the post performance interview with Tom, Neal doesn't join Steve, Jon & Ross. :?

This I find odd for a founding member of the band. Was he pissed off about something? Anyone know?

I have a copy of the full post performance interview. I'm speculating of course, but I think part of the answer lies in what Tom says around the 6min mark (also discussed during the full interview). The band was asked to change the songs at the last minute and they weren't fully rehearsed (at least on DSB). Could have been nerves/anxiety. Perry screwed up the lyrics. Neal reacts. That's my guess.

DSB - Yes, Perry dropped verse 2. It could have been a mistake or it could have been necessary to shorten the song due to time constraints.

But Neal's odd reaction IMO is during WCN, not DSB. And if you check the WCN lyrics ... Perry nails it.

Oh well, maybe Neal was just having a bad hair day :x

Honestly, I don't see him looking pissed at all. He looks focused. Like he wants this to performance to come off well. If he was pissed, it could be Neal was aware how overpowering his backing vocal was in the mix on WCN and was annoyed.

His first little sting at the top of DSB is off-mic too, and he shoots the board mix a dirty look. Probably an off night.
