Anyone ?

Postby tater1977 » Thu Dec 31, 2015 9:00 pm

Been listening to a lot of Carole King lately and wondered if anyone knows why she didn't
record these 2 , or were they just a couple of leftovers from a writing session ?

Carole King, Carole Bayer Sager and Steve Perry
1997

I'LL DO IT ALL FOR YOU
Lyrics:

Anywhere I go
Everything I do
As long as you keep loving me
I'll do it all for you
If ever you're in trouble
I swear I'll see you through
As long as you keep loving me
I'll do it all for you

You are the only one
You own my heart
And if you went away
I know I'd fall apart
I'd swim the ocean
I'd cross the widest sea
Just to hold you in my arms
Bring you back home to me

Anywhere I go
Everything I do
As long as you keep loving me
I'll do it all for you
If ever you're in trouble
I swear I'll see you through
As long as you keep loving me
I'll do it all for you

I'll climb the highest mountain
I'll do anything you say
I will bring you stars from heaven
Only please don't go away

You are the only one
And you will always be
I will pledge my love eternally
I promise you will always be

Anywhere I go
Everything I do
As long as you keep loving me
I'll do it all for you
If ever you're in trouble
I swear I'll see you through
As long as you keep loving me
I'll do it all for you

1998

ONE OF THE BROKEN
Lyrics:

We were in love
We were everything
You put the sunlight in the sky
You told me I could do anything
If you believed it, so did I
It was never in my mind
There would ever come a time
When you would walk away

And now I'm one of the broken
So much has changed
Never thought I'd be one of the broken
I would give anything to be with you again

I always meant
To tell you
How you were always on my mind
I was so scared
I was so blind
Never thought I'd run out of time
Now you're with someone new
Someone else is holding you
While I'm holding only yesterday

Now I'm one of the broken
So much has changed
Never thought I'd be one of the broken
I would give anything to be with you again

Now I'm left with memories
Of you and I together
Without you I'll never see
The man I was meant to be

Now I'm one of the broken
So much has changed
Never thought I'd be one of the broken
I would give anything to be with you again

OMG, I love these 3 as songwriters... didn't know they wrote together. Carole King is a legend. Would love to hear these 2 songs. You just found the lyrics, Tater? Not even a demo anywhere?

That would be David Foster, not Frost.

Judging by the lyrics, it looks like they could have been written for the "Quest for Camelot" movie.

"If Only For the Moment Girl" Hmmm is this song another David Foster song? I have never heard it much on the air! I've read it is from "Street Talk" but its not listed on the album? Nice melody 8)

hidden track on TBF and for some reason on "the essential journey".

That was Steve's solo contribution to the We Are the World album. It was probably recorded during the Street Talk sessions. It was added as a bonus track to the Street Talk CD re-release a few years back.

There is absolutely NOTHING essential about that song. Worst thing that the group ever released IMO.

No way, "Happy to Give" is. That song is so gay that if you play it in a NC bathroom. you can be arrested.

Happy to Give was sung by Deen briefly on the 2004 tour. Happy To Give is one of a few tracks on Raised on Radio that I just don't understand at all. It's not rock. It's barely a ballad. I can't even classify it. Same with "Eyes of a Woman." Just dated sounding dreck.

I don't mind "Baby Im a Leaving You" bonus track on TBF, but I agree it does not deserve to be on Essential Journey at all.

Why in the world would they drag that out when there are so many much better songs Deen could have sung.

Since "Eyes of a Woman" was their only Grammy nominated song, I would hardly classify it as "dated sounding dreck". Obviously many fans loved the song.

I think When you love a woman was the only Grammy nominated song. Eyes of a woman was on Raised on Radio a decade earlier.

With all due respect to everyone here, you have to be out of your mind with the comments about Happy To Give. HTG is an all-time great, Journey song. Steve sang his face off, Jon's keyboard intro/riff is just plain captivating and the song is an emotional powerhouse. God forbid, Journey show some range and make the album interesting by including a song that is different sounding from everything else.

Happy to Give is one of the songs I most hope Steve will sing live when he finally returns to the stage in greater force.

Ok - off my soapbox now... but Jeez....

All this discussion . . . I took a nice lunch break to re-listen TBF!! There isn't one song that isn't great on that album! Not one and some are so beautiful that its beyond comprehension :) I just want to say as a woman that my biggest most important thoughts are that I am beyond amazed in this dimension that a man would take on so much pain when he did not need it or have any reason to nearly bankrupt his heart to save some woman whom those words were for! TBF is astounding :)

As already pointed out, you are misinformed. Typical Perryloon going off half-cocked. Next time get your facts straight. Thanks.

Oh absolutely. Great tune. It just proves that Kalodner at Sony defined Journey as that "Open Arms/Faithfully" band and not the band of "Escape" or "Edge of the Blade." It's criminal that this was not put on the US release.

Lol. You make "Happy to Give" sound like it's prog with weird time signatures. It's not "different" in any musically bold way. It's just boring and very dated. Monker once brilliantly said that ROR sounded like stuff they played at the mall. He's right.

It's definitely not a typical Journey song, and it is dated. I always liked it, though. It does showcase Perry's vocals well, in a story-telling kind of way. Actually, a good portion of the Strange Medicine album follows the same structure. Not a ballad, not a rocker, but a decent showcase for heartbreaking, passionate vocals. Not everyone's cup of tea if you're in to the hard rocking stuff. But that's the R&B/gospel influence coming out of him.
