I don't think Perry would have made a public statement that he's recording if he wasn't. I think that he's a perfectionist who chases a sound or a feel and is relentless about getting what he wants.

I also think he remembers what his voice was and isn't happy about what it is now in comparison -- and that's a source for insecurity. Now that he's in the studio, away from the confidence boost of the Eels show, hearing the tracks play back with a voice that "doesn't sound like Steve Perry" to HIM, might be eating at the confidence he started with. Chances are he's back to belaboring the process.

He still sounds like Steve Perry to me. I hope he releases what he's working on. I also hope Carlos Santana can help mend some fences with Neal, even if it doesn't result in them working together again. Life is short.

I agree. Life is short, I still hold out hope for new music from SP. It's a torturous process for him, but for us, well worth the long wait.
