Unfortunately we lost a music giant last night. Someone who assisted #StevePerry with a song on his GREATEST HITS + 5: LAMONT DOZIER. He helped craft some of Motown's greatest hits.
This is what Steve had to say on his Facebook page:
"I feel so fortunate to say Lamont Dozier was a friend.
His Songwriting rescued me during my youth and to this day continues to do so.
I experienced a moment of a lifetime - which was to write and record a song with him:
"Forever Right or Wrong'' on my "GREATEST HITS'' LP. While recording my vocals, as he was sitting in the studio next to me, I was having a tough time finding the right performance for one of our vocal lines. I turned to him and asked him what he thought I should do differently? He said, "Oh don't worry about it. All we're trying to do is sell a feeling.” As soon as he said that, I felt every song he had written and I knew that's what he always reached for.
Thanks to Lamont, I knew what to do.
I just spoke to Lamont a week ago.
He will be forever missed but never forgotten for his contribution to the landscape of American music, which was born from his vision, and together with Brian and Eddie Holland, Lamont will live on forever.
-Sincerely, Steve Perry"
