ROTH IN ALL STAR BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!

Postby HALENMAN » Thu Sep 29, 2005 2:51 am

This story is taken from a new (hard copy) British heavy metal magazine called THE STOMP BOX . The debut issue hits stands in about three weeks. This dude I met online sent me an advanced copy and I am typing it word for word from it. Here it is:

METAL VETS UNITE FOR NEW BAND

Has the trumpet of Gabriel finally ushered in a new era of Rockdom? It was at the hallowed halls of Hollywood's Rainbow Bar and Grill where a possibly new Renaissance of Rock and Roll was begotten. That is where, on a sultry summer night two years ago, original Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth ran into another notorious Hollywood luminary Tommy Lee. The two rockers hoisted a few spirits, swapped rock and roll war stories, and before long, Roth found himself hijacked and taken back to Tommy Lee's home to listen to tracks Tommy was planning on using for a solo album. What began as a few suggestions from Roth culminated in a full blown collaboration with the two former hair head rockers whipping up a batch of ten original tunes in two weeks.

Confilicting schedules and personal issues precluded Roth and Lee from consummating with an album and tour at the time, but The Stomp Box caught up with David Lee at a cafe in Manhattan's Lower West Side, just two blocks from one of New York's most prominent rehearsal studios where Dave has been hashing out the Roth/Lee compositions with former KISS lead guitarist Vinnie VIncent and ex-Ozzy Osbourne bassist Bob Daisley. Ray Luzier, who has toured with Roth since the nineties, was handling drum duties. The hyperactive huckster of rock was in high spirits and, to our surprise, somewhat comprehensible as he gave The Stomp Box the skinny on his new project.

According to Roth this CD will provide some "combustible and inextinguishable rock and roll that will shake the world out of its lethargic hip hop and alternative slumber." This will not be a Roth solo project according to The Diamond One, but a full on musical unit! "Robert, Vincent, Thomas, and myself have sampled more than our fair share of bitter fruit in this crazy business called show. We've decided to harness that negative energy and channel it into the music." So, what will these disgruntled, dishonored, and disgusted rock and rollers call themselves? BITTER PILL according to Roth. When we asked for a possible album title , he replied, "What else would you call it, Bubba?...SWALLOW."

Precisely when this album would be recorded is still up in the air. Vinnie VIncent is currently unattached , but Bob Daisley is set to make a new CD with his band LIVING LOUD featuring guitarist Steve Morse, this Fall. Also open for speculation is whether or not Tommy Lee himself will step in behind the drum kit for the recording sessions or even a tour. "That remains to be observed", says Roth. " I sent Thomas a recording of the rehearsals and he almost jumped out of his skin. When he recovers after being knocked out by the vibe, the flash, the attitude, the pomp, and the circumstance, we will await his reply."

It could be very interesting but I won't hold my breath...
Sadly, DLR doesn't have much pull or star-power anymore. Tommy Lee would HAVE to be onboar to help garner enough attention. But I think it is very smart for DLR to do something that is NOT built with his name. DLR or the DLR Band just doesn't mean anything anymore. I like the name "Bitter Pill"!

Since Ray Luzier has left Roth's band, according to the DLR Army website, maybe this story has some validity?

Now they need Michael Anthony on bass. What's Vai doing these days? Any other guitarists you would like to see in this band? Vincent doesn't thrill me.

Personally I think Vinnie Vincent would shredd the hell out of Steve Vai, nothing against Steve, but Vinnie has put out 4 songs since 1988 and I think he still has something to prove

Yes, I have read about this collaboration in a recent music trade paper here in the UK. I am truly looking forward to picking up the 'Stomp Box', when it comes out, to hear the full story ! I am quite excited, indeed ! :D Sounds like a true supergroup. I know Daisley can hold his own on bass, while the same goes for that Tommy Lee chap on drums, but I am most excited about hearing Vinnie Vincent playing guitar again, with David Lee Roth on vocals. Been a long time since VV has graced us with his guitar prowess. Shredd, I dare say ! And how is it that DLR always manages to get involved with guitar virtuosos, who's last names begin with V ? 8) (3 and counting........)

With two one-time-posting newbies confirming the news?

Sorry, my sarcasm is gonna get me in serious trouble one of these days!

(edit) make that three newbies with "Miss Kiss" supporting the thread in the Guitarists forum :|

Supposedly now, here on Melodic Rock, Bob Daisley has denied this supergroup formation with DLR, VV and TLee. I have to admit, I am somewhat skeptical about this denial. The original article I read online, quoted from the STOMP BOX, seems more plausible and fact based to me than this alleged 'denial' from Daisley.
Let's weigh the issue : Bob's quote on the supergroup matter was simply a 'BS rumor.........' Very strong denial, huh ? Not quite in my eyes. I don't think Daisley was even questioned, or even interviewed, about this topic. This seems like a journalist hack's 'rebuttal' to the STOMP BOX story, sowing his own sour grapes at being scooped on this supergroup formation. The STOMP BOX story was pretty detailed, in length, with tons of quotes from DLR, himself. And it sounded very much like Dave had spilled the beans on the project, probably before he was supposed to. We all know how hard it could be for Dave to keep a secret. ;) That being said, if it was a scoop by the STOMP BOX journalist (getting the dilly from Dave), then if Daisley was indeed questioned, of course, he would deny it ! Why spoil the project before it even got the proper press this group would deserve ? This is/could be a major band that would help rock and roll get back into the world spotlight again, and get rid of (C) rap music, once and for all. We need this band to save our metal souls ! Do you want to be surrounded by Kanye West and Beyonce', the rest of your life ? I don't. I want my metal back ! And Dave, Vinnie, Bob and Tommy can do it for us ! Screw the nay-sayers and those quick to say 'bullshit'. These are simply people, who if they didn't hear the story first, on their own, would deny it until it actually happens. They are just pissed that they didn't get the scoop the story. Instead of supporting this type of union, they shit on it. Remember when the nay-sayers denied the KISS reunion in 95 ? That reunion happened and did DAMN well, in fact ! The posters who have supported this BITTER PILL supergroup, are truly the real rockers who deserve respect and accolades. They deserve this supergroup to release an album that will blow away Eminen and Usher and Do wah Diddy Diddy DUMB Diddy DOO ! So, instead of crapping on this story as a rumor, rockers.........................DEMAND IT TO HAPPEN ! Tell/e-mail/yell/scream/bully and ask nicely of DAVE, VINNIE, TOMMY and BOB to go ahead with their plans, forget the 'pooh-poohers', and record this album ! We need it ! Cheers to the STOMP BOX for scooping this story. Don't let the 'it's bullshit' sour grapers spoil it for all of us. BITTER PILL should get our support, not the nay-sayers' BITTER condemnations....................

"Journalist hack rebuttal"

Strong words. All this because you don't like the fact that Andrew claims to have spoken directly to one of the people involved in the rumor? I agree that Andrew did not elaborate much, but that is no reason to call him a liar.

BTW, anyone who tries to create a good rumor is going to add as many details as possible! The more people like you, that someone can sucker in, the better.

And for the record, I think this would be a cool project and I hope it happens. Maybe Daisley isn't involved but everyone else is? Either way, I doubt it will have much of an impact on the rock world. Velvet Revolver also should have 'saved rock 'n' roll' but didn't. It is just the way of the world.... But I think it is wrong for you to slander the owner of the very site you are posting on because you did not like what he said.

Rumor

Postby rockeratheart » Wed Oct 05, 2005 8:16 am

Wow, Jiffy..that sure was an impassioned note!!! LOL .I dont know what to say about all this. This is the first I am hearing about this alleged band, but I must say it sounds very plausible. Even if melodic rock DID talk to Daisley, Jiffy makes a good point that it might be in Daisley's best interest or in BITTER PILL's best interst to keep this quiet.. It is so hard to tell these days. With the advent of the internet and all I know a lot of these big name people use it to spread rumors about themselves in order to gauge fan reaction before they make a formal announcement..
I will say , this looks like it could be an interesting band. I will stay tuned and keep my fingers crossed.
Jrnyman28, I can understand your offense at the "hack journalist" comment, but it jsut appears to me that this band has really struck a raw nerve with Jiffy and understandably so..Again, I hope it does happen and i have more faith in Bitter PIll than I had in Velvet Revolver before the Velvet revolver album came out.

My comments were not directed at Andrew, jrnyman28, not at all. I do not even know Andrew, and he could well be a pretty nice chap. :D I was merely reacting to the news blurb on the front page (whoever wrote it). I have just heard way too many stories that were simply shit on by lots of press and fans and then they happened anyway (and true, many that didn't). It just tires me. Instead of trying to disprove something, I'd rather see some nurturing, you know ? Everything is a 'claim', a 'lie', and a 'rumor', until you hold the CD in your hands. I agree, this could be a great band, and if there is a chance of its' birth, I'm sure the 4 particulars would like to read some positive commentary beforehand, to give them the impetus to carry on with it.............. 8)

On another forum I visit, there was a thread about classic rock making a comeback. Of course, to be 'classic' rock, it has to be old and well-known. But a lot of classic rock is being used in ads. Many of the bands (later-era CR) are still around and putting out music. Some of those 70s-80s bands are gaining new audiences (like Styx and Journey). Then you have bands like Velvet Revolver and (possibly) Bitter Pill that are straight-ahead rock'n'roll. Could be a resurgence of the style of music we all know and love.

To be honest, I think if VH had put out a full CD instead of just those 3 tracks on a best of, they might have really given that styule of music a shot in the arm. VH is sort of like metallica. Their reputation makes things happen. If not for Metallica in the 90's, I firmly believe we would have lost rock on the radio. Their stuff may not have been as good as it once was, but when they put out material it got played on the radio. I think VH would have too. The main problem is that VH looked like a cash grab. It never looked like a sincere reunion.
