Rock Star:

Postby Angiekay » Tue Feb 14, 2006 1:45 am

Yes we are...no we're not...yes we are...

Van Halen has denied it in the past, but a new report says they will be the featured band on this year's edition of the Rock Star reality series. According to tmz.com, it's a done deal, and instead of the usual answer, Van Halen's publicist told the site, "I'm not denying it. I'm not going to answer any questions about it." Other representatives for the band and for CBS, which will air the second season of the reality TV series, didn't respond to e-mails seeking clarification.

a 4th singer (5 if you count Hagar's 2 stints separately) may drum up some quick pub and sales, but would be a deathblow to the band longterm.

I don't see anywhere in the article that anyone says it is a "done deal". But I said I thought it was a long time ago... 8)

(Feb. 12, 10:50AM ET) -- Sources tell TMZ that Van Halen is in the market for a new lead singer, and the marketplace will be the upcoming reality show 'Rock Star: The Series.'

Last October, Van Halen reps vehemently denied the band would use 'Rock Star' in a talent search for a new lead singer. The reps are now singing a different tune. Van Halen publicist Larry Solters told TMZ: "I'm not denying it. I'm not going to answer any questions about it."

Last year, the band INXS used 'Rock Star' to find a new lead singer. J.D. Fortune won the competition, and the band is now making a comeback with a hit new album and a sold-out tour.

As for Van Halen, the group has had three lead singers since it hit the scene back in 1978: David Lee Roth, who left the band in 1985, Sammy Hagar, who split in 1996, and Gary Cherone, who did just one album and tour with the band in 1998.

The next season of 'Rock Star,' produced by Mark Burnett for CBS, is scheduled to air during the summer. Neither Burnett nor CBS would comment on the Van Halen buzz.

Here is the lastest:

Enough with the speculation -- Van Halen will NOT be doing the next edition of the reality TV series Rock Star. Rumors have circulated for months, but a source close to the band confirmed that Van Halen is not -- and has not ever been -- attached to the second season of Rock Star, which will air later this year. That definitive statement follows what a CBS representative said earlier this week, that a Van Halen/Rock Star team-up was nothing more than a rumor.

On a related note, original lead singer David Lee Roth said that if it was up to him, he and Van Halen would hit the road as soon as possible. On his radio show yesterday (Tuesday, February 14th), Roth said the only thing fans want is a reunion tour, which he said would last three months and bring in at least $1 million a show. He also said that they need to do it now, while they're all still on top of their games, instead of waiting 10 more years and being a shell of what Van Halen used to be. There's been no response from the Van Halen camp to the offer, which Roth has made in varying forms over the years.

I'll take a Dave reunion with a tour in support of an album of new material in the vein of Me Wise Magic and Can't Get This Stuff followed with a double live album with disc 1 covering the Roth reunion tour and disc 2 culling material from every past era and a live DVD of a Dave reunion show.

So, when you came into the Van Halen forum to start this "new topic" you didn't see that the one titled "Rock Star: VH" was right there on top?! Because I posted the latest "news" 13 hours before you did!

I'm not interested in a "reunion" tour held for the express purpose of milking the fans. If they get back together to be a band again, that's great. But I'll save my money for the groups that deserve it.

Certainly, the obvious retort would be, "There is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people." And, I'm not going to say that about you because I don't think you're stupid. However, as you have given as your location, you do seem to be "in a state of confusion."

I sure hope the next Rockstar series is NOT picking a lead vocalist to front a new unknown "Supergroup"...that sounds like a big yawner to me... 8)

Half the fun of Rockstar is having an established group to find a singer that "fits"...

It's no fun if you're starting from scratch. :(

HOLDING AUDITIONS...

Postby Paddywagon » Thu Feb 23, 2006 8:46 am

Looks like they are holding auditions for Rockstar again...

Yeah, but for WHO??? :?

Seems kind of stupid to keep the band a mystery...

If I was a lead singer, I'd SURE AS HELL want to know what group I was auditioning for!!!!!!!!!!!

What if the band was "Culture Club" or something!! :)
