'Everybody Wants Some' book

Hi:

I'm the author of a book that came out a few months ago about Styx called 'The Grand Delusion'. I have been planning for my next book to be about Van Halen, when all of a sudden I found out that another writer had beaten me to it.

I want to see if anyone here has read 'Everybody Wants Some', and what the fan reaction is to this book. Is it good enough to satisfy the fan base? Is it well-researched enough? Is it the real, complete unauthorized story of Van Halen? Or is there still room for another writer to come in and do a better job with another book?

Haven't read it yet and probably won't. From what I can tell, it doesn't look like it offers up anything that a typical Van Halen fan wouldn't know about already. Not much dirt like the Sammy Hagar chapters that were leaked awhile back.

What you need to do is get together with Mikey and write a book with the real inside stories.

I haven't read Sterling's Styx book, but the consensus amongst the Styx fans (on the board here) are that it is an awesome, well balanced account that doesn't take sides in an environment with a lot of petty bickering and arguing. Everyone has nothing but praise to say about it.

Sterling, go for it! I'm sure it will be an awesome book!

The only Van Halen book I would bother to buy or read would be one written by Mikey. He should write one immediately to recoup the losses that his bandmate Eddie Van Halen caused for him on the upcoming Van Halen tour. This would be one way to stick his middle finger right back in Eddie's face and say, "Back at ya biotch!" Every serious Van Halen fan would buy one.

As far as some outsider writing a book on Van Halen, I don't think it would sell very well. Just my opinion. Maybe you should contact Mikey to do a collaboration on a book? I don't think he's very busy right now other than a handful of shows with Sammy.

Having read your excellent book, once I read it I'll be able to give you some sort of feedback on how it stacks up against yours.

In the meantime... get crackin on that Alice Cooper book!

Fed-Ex Mikey a copy of your Styx book and enclose a letter asking him if he wants to collaborate with you on a Van Halen book.

I bought the book last year, read it and was promptly pissed at myself for having spent the money. I will say, though, the foreward by Brian May was obviously written with a lot of thought. One that I thought was very good was something called "Know the Man, Play the Music". It was well-written, factual and didn't linger on the substance abuse issues.
