Van Hagar is King!

I think as a live act DLR brings the entertainment and the party to the show which has been missed since his departure - and for those who witnessed the rise of VH in their prime - nothing beats the original line-up.

However as a recording act and if a new album was to be released, I'd much prefer Sammy. Granted I would still buy a new record if one were to made with Roth fronting the band (who wouldn't?) - but my preference is Van Hagar, I just find the guys got a more compelling and captivating vocal.

I grew up with DLR-Halen (Fair Warning and 1984 were my favorite albums way back when) and I first remembered being confounded that Sammy Hagar had become VH's new singer.

That was because I didn't know shit about Hagar back then, as I do now.

Yes, the DLR era is more, one could say, "unique" due to Dave and Ed.

However, as a pure vocalist, and songwriter (not to mention Sam also plays an instrument, and Dave can only play with himself), I respect Sam far more than Dave. Montrose and many (not all) of Sammy's solo albums are great rock records. Dave's are all jokes. Yes, even the one he did with Vai and Sheehan. I have NO idea why it gets so much praise. In spite of the top-shelf musicians Dave surrounded himself with, Eat 'Em And Smile sounds like a limp-dicked version of VH. And it just got worse after that. Rejoining VH is the best thing that's ever happened to Dave, and I'm sure it's working wonders for his mortgage, his bank accounts, and his credit card balances.

So with me, it's not an age issue. I just know what I like.

if you knew anything about dave, you would know he doesnt need money. the guy came from money, made his own money and had no money problems.

No doubt he made tons of moola from Van Halen through 1984. None whatsoever! Still, he's been regarded as something of a joke from the late '80s through the mid-00's, and his eccentric (read: assholish) behavior on the "Sans Halen" tour only reinforced his poseur image. Rejoining VH is certainly the best thing that's happened to Dave. Since he initially left, anyway.

its still amazing how people have different 'fav' VH albums! i mean, my top 3 albums are 1984, 5150 and VH3.

Just thought Id throw in my 2. I saw VH at the beginning of the tour in December. I was so jazzed to see DLR and it was a great show. However, If I could have my choice I would rather have seen VH with Sammy!
