1) The reason why was already given. He wants to spend more time with family and solo projects.
2) Brian Head has been introduced as the drummer at shows for the last 2 months. He attends fan meet and greets and is just as much a part of the band as Michael Bluestein (keyboards.)

Brian played on the latest High School Musical CD and has previously toured with Hilary Duff.

But no, no official "announcement" has been made on the subject....
