Travis....that is simply wrong.

Riggins was in 2 SBs....1982 against Miami, and 1983 against Oakland.

Combined, he rushed a total of 64 times in those two games....his longest run was 43 yards, led to a TD. In the other 63 attempts his longest run was NINE yards....hardly what I'd call 'dominant in the playoffs'.

Simply put, he was a possession back/goal line back. If Washington didn't win that SB - he'd never have gotten in.

John, think Jim Rice. Look where his disdain for the Boston press got him....a pity HOF induction. Even though he was the best power hitter of his generation(his stats don't lie), he was blacklisted for off-field reasons....and so will TO.

The Jim Rice analogy doesn't work dude. Listen, I LOVED Rice, but Rice didn't rank in the top 20 of ANY categories in the history of baseball! I would imagine if I really looked, Rice probably doesn't rank in the top 50 in a lot of categories! He was a very borderline guy based on his stats. While I do agree with you that Owens hasn't endeared himself to anyone in the media, his numbers are good enough that it simply won't matter one iota, because any writer not voting for him will look like a jackass. There is simply no defending not voting the guy in based on his numbers, period, end of story!

Tell that to Pete Rose....gambling has nothing to do with his PLAYING stats. Guy isn't in the HOF.

Dude...are you fucking serious? You do realize that the ONLY reason that Rose isn't in the HOF is because he has been banned from the sport for life, because of gambling on the game, right? Not sure how you would even begin to work this into any argument. I'm fairly certain that any other athlete in any sport banned from the sport for illegal gambling would face the same consequences, regardless of their stats!

John. yes I'm fucking serious. And he was banned for actions done while holding the position of MANAGER. As a player, he has more hits than any other player...EVER.

PLUS, banning him from babseball has nothing to do with inducting him into the HOF. But on a side note: Giamatti seemed to have quite the pair of balls for doing that to Pete. A pair that Selig doesn't seem to have concerning the steroids issue.

Anyway your quote concerned not being an excuse for not voting someone in based on his numbers. I simply stated that numbers aren't the end all, be all.

And you're dead wrong. Do yourself a favor and look into The Baseball Writers of America. I know for a fact that the members of this organization (who vote on the baseball HOF) are not allowed to vote for Rose. I've heard more than one of them say that they would vote Rose in, without hesitation. It's not an option, dude! The guy's name doesn't (and hasn't) even appear on the ballot as an option. You're using one scenario where a guy didn't get in with numbers that absolutely put him in and using that as an example in the Terrell Owens case? I'm not sure where, how, or why you think one situation has ANYTHING to do with the other!

Riggins was one of THEE best playoff backs of ALL TIME. In 1982, he gained 444 yards in 3 games, rushing for 185 yards (which was a franchise record) in one of them, and rushed for 166 yards when beating Miami in Super Bowl XVII, which he was named MVP. His four consecutive playoff games with over 100 yards was an NFL postseason record. He was the second player ever to rush for over 100 touchdowns in the history of the NFL, next to Cleveland's Jim Brown. This is a no brainer here, dude.
