Had it - Lost it

Some bands have "it". The magic, the spark, then lose it. What bands fit or any that never lost "it"?

Example: Did The Beatles ever lose it or did they fold up early enough to dodge burn out?

Only band I can think of that kept the raw energy through their whole career would be Queen (with Mercury).

Hate to say it but a band that comes to my mind is Queensryche lost their magic touch after Empire...but still believe in them, love their music..another one Metallica

I'm wavering on Foreigner. Although they've done two albums without Gramm and released umpteen greatest hits, the quality of the music seems to stay. Some would say after "Four" they lost it but to me there's some good rockers on Agent and Inside Info is a hell of an album.

for me Metallica went down the hill between the ..and justice for all & black album; actually after the second one i mention, i still like that record

No, you're right on the mark. I guess they can have it, lose it and get it back which rarely happens.

I didn't care for them when Rob Halford wasn't singing for them... so that one is in question.

Depends on how we gauge it. AC/DC lost Bon but came back stronger than ever. For a couple albums anyway. As the 80's took off into pop and new wave, disco (thank god) and some hard rock outfits got left behind.

Biggest RUSH fan, but they lost it after Signals in '82.....found it again for Presto in '89, then lost it for good after T4E in '96.

Very surprised to read that. If you'd said after Moving Pictures I could go with it but Signals already marked the change in their sound. Signals starts right away with the heavy keyboards.

They went from progressive in the mid 70s, to radio friendly late 70s to new wave in the 80s. I wouldn't say they lost it at any of those points. Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows and Hold Your Fire have some great stuff on them.

I'd say they started to flounder after Counterparts.

Great band either way. On par with Queen for longevity.
