He was sexy until sometime around 2003 or so and lost it.

He always reminded me of Bob Goldthwait

Ha-ha. Even older, with his head of hair, he's looking fine. One of the best videos I've ever seen. Vertigo-

This tour sadly I can't make an argument for it.

Thanks, Tree. Love that.

I always love the video of his performance at Live-Aid of Bad. Also, here's an interview I found a few years ago on how he felt he had screwed up his performance jumping into the crowd. He's very honest about his weaknesses and strengths as a performer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHnXOSxka1Q

"Bono reflected on the historic Live Aid concert during a 1989 interview for Mother Jones Magazine. Here's what he said:
MJ: Adam Clayton said that right after your Live Aid performance, the band wanted to pack it in. They were all so upset with the performance....

BONO: We were very desperate, and depressed by it. The feeling was that I had just shot U2 in the head in front of a billion viewers.
(laughs)...In retrospect, we feel it was valid. But at the time, we felt I had taken a real risk, and we didn't know if people would get it.
See, I'm a songwriter first, a singer second, and a performer third. But sometimes the "performer" is the strongest side. Onstage I
often try to find a way to express a song other than the way I sing it. That's probably though having a limited voice. Not being a great singer, or even a very good one at times, I would look for other ways. That's why I used those white flags: this idea of a flag drained of all color, the idea of surrender. If there was any flag worth flying, that was it.
In the case of Live Aid, I wanted some way to make the feeling that people felt there visual: a symbol. So when I saw this African girl in the audience, she was shouting and shouting at me, calling and calling...I just impulsively jumped or fell over into this pit. She was being crushed, and bashed around a bit, and I just pulled her out. By holding onto this person, I felt like I was holding onto the whole audience. It felt like holding onto everyone. It seems, in hindsight, that everyone watching it felt that. It actually was that for some reason.
It's a risky business. I've thrown drums off the stage, pushed over PA stacks, burned electric guitars. I find myself resorting to these things. And I know now that it's pure insecurity about my insecurity about my ability as a singer."

He's a fucking whining little cvnt-mouth. Never liked him or the grossly overrated so-called guitarist that joined him in the category of stupid fucking names.

Holy shit...what a fucking waste....In another time, Bono's head would have decorated London bridge care of an overbearing English king. Seriously. A full blown bag of political hot wind with nothing to support it except shitty music.

Why is this even a topic here? I thought melodicrock.com was reserved for artists that didn't suck 12"+ cock.

 I don't think Shania is affecting your edge at all! There were a few songs I liked off of 'The Joshua Tree', but in general U2 is overrated. I think their politics elevated them beyond what was earned by their music. Entities like 'Rolling Stone' magazine love that, but if they think a band is interested in earning a living and making money, it offends their delicate sensibilities.

Fuck Bono...Fuck the edge (what the fuck kind of name is 'the edge' anyway)....fuck the other two douchebags that don't have a stupid invented name.....fuck the flop head motherfucking faggots that listened to this crap in the 80s and made them into more than a group of useless fucking wankers.

Holy shit....why are we even talking about these fucking pricks? Bono needs a lobotomy!

Great. Now my U2 rant will seem derivative and lame. You suck.
And Bono sucks. He's a big doodiehead. And all that other stuff you said.

I like "With or Without You". That's all I can find that's nice to say.

I'm drinkin but I like the edge but he has a shitty name. His sound is great though. I like U2's music but I'd like to piss in Bono's mouth and eyes. They are also not the legends they think they are

My son is going to drop me and a few friends off at Pasadena College at noon. From there, We'll take the 5 dollar shuttle to the RoseBowl picnic area, where they've got stuff planned all day. They've got places to eat and drink, watch football and just basically have a good time up until when the show starts. With it being in the mid 80s tomorow, it's looking like it's going to be a lot of fun.

They're predicting 100,000. I'm geeked. With big shows like this, the band's performance is almost secondary. It's more about the thrill of hanging with friends and having a good time. Being able to watch football before the show just makes it that much better.

Well, that's a good attitude to have b/c the reviews are all over the place. Many complaints of sound issues depending on venue or where you are in the large venues, and some loving the 360 and some not liking the 360, some not liking the new songs or pace of the setlist with them in it, and then others absolutely loving it all. Who is opening for you, Muse or Blackeye Peas? Probably BP. I love both, but prefer Muse, fantastic band, but they only opened for about a month.

BEP. Muse is doing their own sold out show in Norway tomorrow. I don't get all the love for the Peas but I should have a good buzz going by then so it's not going to matter much.

http://www.spinner.com/2009/10/23/u2-di ... um-once%2F

U2's motivation is political so of course they really don't care how many albums they sell. They are primarily motivated by the numbers of how many political views they've changed/formed with their music.

You are so far off base with that comment. Sure, their political views are important to them and do show up in concert and music. But you obviously don't follow them or read their interviews or own their last several albums to say that's their main motivation. That's a broad comment coming from someone I suspect who doesn't follow them and generalizing the band. And I give Bono credit, he has always worked with both parties in America for his humanitarian efforts b/c he says he's more effective that way. They have acknowledged sometimes in the past his activism was getting in the way of their making music and didn't want that to overwhelm it, and have made efforts for it to be about the music. They are a spiritual band, except one, I think, and are deeply religious and have been since they formed, and it is reflected in their music that way in many songs.

Your absolutely right, I don't know much about this band anymore, neither do I really want to. And yeah, I remember a few years back (maybe it was actually longer, not so sure) but I heard about the band not being happy with how much time and effort Bono was putting into his political agenda. Sure, I was a fan of U2 back in the late 80's and had about three of their albums, only remember Joshua Tree by name. I was sort of shocked that in the late 80's Bono made vocalist of the year....according to Rolling Stoner magazine anyways....I think. I thought there were lots better vocalists out there that were way better then Bono.....but what the fuck do I know right. I thought Whitesnake's vocalist and even Skid Row's vocalist was way better then Bono back in the late 80's.

Now however, U2? No desire to own any of their music anymore. I wouldn't even sing one of their songs at a shitty karaoke club. And it's funny but I was just on the phone earlier tonight with a friend of mine from out of state, he was telling me that U2 was seriously considering discontinuing their tour because they seem to be in the red. I find that hard to believe but.....never know. Why would they be in the red? Seems like they're pretty popular right now and selling lots of seats at their shows.
