I understand your plight. The kids need to take control themselves and take precautions, but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. Doesn't your school send sick children home? That would solve a lot of problems. The admins need to take back control of the schools, and let the schools and teachers do what's best for the kids. Things are too insane. Prevention is key. Make sure you constantly wash your hands, and teach Wyatt to do the same; that is the single most thing that prevents illnesses. He'll do it automatically in the future - he'll go off to kindergarten and teach the other kids. I'm sure you know that already. 8)

Are you sure you want to be seen "talking" to me on a public board? Kissing butt and all that.

our nurse does not risk anything, she sends 'em home. our little health clinic is insane with customers. i have a jumbo bottle of hand sanitizer, my desk is off limits, and i spray the desks, shelves, door handles, etc. with disinfectant. wyatt doesn't go to day care so he gets what we bring home or out at market, park, and stuff. clean hands is key!

kiss kiss

Our problem is when we try to send them home, parents can't be contacted. Also they send them back the next day sick as a dog. I clean my tables, and we have sinks in the art room to wash up. Sad thing is no matter how many precautions you take, it is also airborne. I guess when we get enough abscences the school will close down. Till then, I wash my hands frequently, and spray Lysol. I don't care if the students hate the smell.

Whirlygig must be having a coronary over that one.

Glad to hear your nurse sends the little petri dishes home. That is another key to staying well. As for those parents who don't want to be bothered, that's too bad. Too many parents are willing to relinquish responsibility of their children to the schools, all for the sake of convenience. The schools are more than willing to be of service.

The schools need to hold the parents responsible for their own kids, telling the parents up front what the rules are and what the consequences of breaking them are going to be. Then follow through. I call BS to not being able to get it done, because it's ultimately up to them to make it happen. I feel sorry for the teachers and school nurses, as well as the kids who aren't sick, who are all caught in the middle.
