I plan on doing at least one review a week, by the way... and will be reviewing several Melodic Rock releases soon.

I think it's a great record. I won't say "Best since..." because I thought their last record was killer as well, but it's a great album. Short and directly to the point...I hope they jam out a few of the songs in concert a bit, but I like having a rockin', straight to the point studio album that fits nicely on two sides of vinyl. (Yeah, I ponied up for the vinyl version...the cover art is way cooler that way, and the sound is phenomenal through good headphones)

It's cool, I really like The Fixer... so far nothing else has really caught me yet. I'll give it time.

I'm more of a fan of the earlier stuff, Ten through Yield.

Great review man... I've been calling One Day At A Time the heir apparent to DL's Hysteria... what do you think? That's definitely one of my favorite tracks on there.

I actually kinda like Comes Down Like Rain's solo break. It reminds me of something DT might do, ala Wither from their last album perhaps

One of mine as well. The first couple minutes are the best when he's singing in his lower register

I like it too but it just doesn't "fit" right to me regardless. Maybe that's WHY I like it. I'm typically into that. Doesn't ruin the song at all though, still a good tune.

Good call on the "One Day at a Time" observation.. it made me go back and listen to it again, and I definitely get that vibe.

Thanks for the reminder of the new DT album, I should review it while it's still halfway new..

..which reminds me, what do you guys think of reviewing "older" material on my blog? Should I keep it to fresh stuff or try to shed some light on older gems?

Review em as you see fit. You never know who you might introduce to a great album/band, even if it's not hot off the presses

Along with MR....I'd also recommend Heavyharmonies.com

For those who do not know about this website, it is an invaluable tool in researching bands of this genre, and some others.....I think you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised at what you may stumble upon.....

for instance:

http://www.heavyharmonies.com/cgi-bin/find2.cgi?Input=Jeff+Scott+Soto

A list of projects JSS has been involved in. And I'm sure even JSS nutbags will find stuff they never even knew he played on....

Thanks for the link, I had been there once a LONG time before but for whatever reason it faded from memory. I'll add it to my link list, peruse it, learn and grow.

I'm really curious about Kryst the Conqueror, seems like such a random project for JSS and I'd like to hear it.

It's one of the top 10 MR songs of the decade for sure.

If I Fall, really great song vocally by Jeff, love the heavy backing vocals, overlaying of vocals, and great guitar solo in there.

I'm just not usually a huge fan of JSS's vocal tone on slower songs, but It Comes Down Like Rain is my favorite song, beautiful song, and love the very simple, yet haunting guitar.
