Steven Seagal has been a deputy for over 20 years?!

Postby SherriBerry » Tue Nov 24, 2009 10:21 pm

There is a new show premiering on A&E December 2: Steven Seagal: Lawman. It turns out he has been a part-time, active duty deputy in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana for over 20 years! They are going to do a reality series following him on patrols and showing him training other officers in martial arts and small arms weaponry. I trained in Jiujitsu for a while when I lived near a dojo, so I am already interested in watching this show just for whatever instruction I can get, but it looks pretty interesting - and funny. In one of the previews, a perp is on the ground being arrested and you can hear him say, "No way, man - that is Steven Seagal! I want his autograph!"

They should do A Steven Seagal-Shaq cop buddy film. Shaq's been a sheriff's deputy for a long time as well. Now, THAT'D be two acting powerhouses taking over the screen

Does he really do his moves IRL these days? I figured he didn't want to make any sudden movements. You know, the hairpiece and all.

These guys are Reserve Deputies. You cannot become a certified officer unless you attend police academy and pass the tests required.

I thought i remembered hearing Shaq went through the academy in LA... I could be wrong. At any rate, thanks for the clarification

They could still make a killer cop-buddy movie

Steven Seagal attended the LA Police Academy and passed his certification back in the 80s.

He was on the View today. He said he's done this for many, many years and loves being in law enforcement and feels he's making a difference. He doesn't get paid. He does it for several months a year as a volunteer when he's home and not acting. But from what I gathered he is a full-fledged officer on patrol. He said he was hesitant to do the show, but then decided it would be good for New Orleans and bring attention to their plight. But it's all true. He works in some tough areas. And he said he gets recognized a little.

I watched two episodes of the show and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was pretty funny when he would get recognized, and after he helped break up an altercation people were asking for his autograph. I wish he would do an instructional Aikido video - at the moment I'll have to keep watching some of his movies. Which reminds me, I'm putting Under Seige and a few others on my DVD wishlist - just nothing from 2003 to 2008.

He's a wife-beating, rageohollic, philandering miscreant. He is known for going to clubs and starting fights just for the hell of it.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

Really? I knew he was a philanderer, but I've never heard about the other claims. If he likes to get into fights, I'm surprised he isn't being sued on a regular basis - usually when a celebrity is just in the vicinity of an altercation, they get hit with a monetary suit. How can he start fights in public without getting arrested for assault and still be a police officer?

Edit: I did some research and wow, Seagal has told some stories! There was a reference about his marriage to Kelly LeBrock I hope is not true, but I learned she is finishing up her autobiography and I am interested in reading it. She doesn't strike me as a lady who would hold back on the truth when telling her story.

Actually, in the state of Florida which is one of the states that Shaq is a reserve deputy, you DO have to attend a full time police academy. It's only auxillary police who don't, but still go through so many hours of training. If you are a reserve and you carry a gun, you go to the academy. In Florida, anyone can attend a police academy at their own expense, but it doesn't guarantee a job.
