"Live" DVD with the new album?

Postby conversationpc » Mon Dec 07, 2009 11:17 am

Anyone else think the "live" DVD is far less than live? It sounds almost totally studio-recorded to me, at least the vocals anyway. Of course, I can't prove that but it just leaves that impression.

AR said this too a while ago, I didn't notice but will be looking next time I watch it.
And they DID do studio rerecords of the GH b/c they were up on the website jukebox for some time, even though they didn;t use them for Can;t Slow Down instead opting for the remixes.
So for people like you and Ed who've said they wonder, there ARE studio rerecords of the vox on the GH in existence...
Might actually watch tonight now that it;'s come up again.

Could be.
The constant cross-cutting of footage from different European venues also detracts from the live concert vibe.

I've liked Foreigner since the early 80's when I was getting into music. I saw Lou Gramm a few years ago and he flat out rocked. I saw Foreigner with Styx and Def Lep in '07 and they sounded just OK. Kelly Hansen may be a decent singer, but he is a clone of Lou on some songs and it bothers me. This especially came through on the DVD. I want him to sing in his own key. Especially on Juke Box Hero, it sounds as if we are watching a great karaoke singer that can nail Foreigner. Furthermore, I like the idea of the DVD with the CD, but the remastered CD with Lou on vocals? Come on, Mick.

I never quite understood this, either. It's like they want to showcase their new singer on 2/3 of the new package, but then they say "but if you don't like the new album or the DVD...here are the songs you're familiar with. Enjoy."

According to Andrew, it was Kelly's idea to respect the past and not shit all over it, as Journey and Arnel have done with their inferior remakes of the classics.
If including a cd of hits is part of the Walmart deal, I'm glad Foreigner had the sense to leave the past well enough alone.
Besides, the re-mixes sound great.
