But to script an entire show around rape crimes under the guise of being informative when, in fact, it ain't nothing more than titilating amusement for some dirty old man whacking off in his La-Z-boy recliner --- well, that's just too much for me.

Rude. I hope you're joking. SVU is the only L&O I watch and I find it incredibly interesting, and usually chillingly acted. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT a legitimate portion of its viewers watch a crime drama to "whack off", especially considering half each episode is court proceedings and main character story arc. Most episodes do not have a perp gleefully describing the acts, and they never show anything happening. Police really do have to deal with cases like these and it's really fascinating to see how it affects the detectives on the show, probably as it does to real life detectives.
