My Saturday just got worse...

Postby G.I.Jim » Sun Apr 11, 2010 11:59 am

Well, my day just went from bad to worse (which I'm sure makes you happy Billy, you goat fucker! ). I stated in a different thread that I had to go to the doctor today after breaking out in some kind of rash for the last two days and that my throat had also swelled making it difficult to swallow. I was put on steroids and given ointment, and the doctor thinks I got into poison ivy.

So I drug up, chill out on the couch (since the doctor says I can't be out in the sunlight for two fucking weeks-does she realize that my favorite thing to do is landscape and work in my yard???) and watch a movie. My wife takes our son to a skateboarding park so that he can prepare for an upcoming competition that he's been excited about. I get almost all the way through the movie, and my wife calls me on the way to the ER. She said my son fell on his elbow, and it looked deformed. She said another mother who was there is a nurse, and she said it looked like it wasn't broken, just dislocated.

So I sit here drugged and covered head to toe (literally) with poison ivy and itching like HELL and hear back from her that they did an xray and that it's dislocated AND broken. He'll be in a cast for the next 6 weeks. I thought she'd be in and out of there in a couple of hours, and it didn't make since for me to drive for 30 minutes just to see them when they were heading home.

Here it is 9:47pm, and they STILL aren't home! He's still in the OR until he can urinate for them. I feel like a complete ASS for not going now. :( To top it off, I just got something out of the freezer and cut my damn finger!

And here's some wise advice for all of you here...

Don't touch your meat stick while urinating, or scratch your ass while you have poison ivy.... it's a bad thing!

Dude, sorry to hear about your son. I remember him loving to skate. He had just completed that ramp when I was down there. Did he have elbow pads on? I seem to remember him being pretty covered with pad protection. Either way it sucks. I hope he heals soon and I hope your itchy pecker and anus get better, too! :( Have a few beers and relax. Sounds like you're in for a few rough weeks.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Dan! Yeah, he normally wears pads and a helmet, but this ONE time he went to this skate park thats 45 minutes from here and forgot his pads... this happens. He was actually taking it easy out there today, and just hit a patch of loose gravel on the concrete. It made the board slip, and BAM!

You haven't seen the ramp that I'm building for him now. It's about 20 feet long, 16 feet wide, and 8 feet tall! It's nearly finished, and will be done after a couple of solid days of work. It's nothing half-assed either... this thing is up to professional standards and looks awesome (if I must say so myself!).

My little brother just got over poison ivy. He had it all over his tallywacker and his balls. He was miserable for a week. He said the skin cracked and it peeled like a snake shedding its skin. Sorry to hear about your predicament Jim. I hope you dont get it down under.....

You might want to skip the hugging him part. The last thing the poor kid needs is poison ivy on top of the fucked up elbow. Hope you both feel better soon. Take Aveeno baths. It will help a lot with the itching.

Jim, hope you both recover quickly.

My boyfriend dislocated his elbow 2 yrs. ago. The doctor said he'd been better off breaking it because at least they could have put it in a cast to hold it still to let it heal. He got trampled by a crazy ass horse. (We found out later this horse had done this a few times before. Had we known, we wouldn't have taken it in) While trying to rein it in and calm it down, it reared up several times, he held on trying to control it and dislocated his elbow. When he let go it proceeded to try to stomp him to death but luckily he kept rolling and only got stomped twice on his back and leg.

That is truly a bad day Jim. Hopefully you both get better soon and tell the wife that she is like a "holder" in the NFL for you for a few days.

 Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate it. I'm feeling a little better today, and my son is still sleeping out on the couch. We had a movie night when he got home, and he was pretty drugged up and wasn't hurting too bad. I think today will be a different story once he wakes up though. :( Poor little guy. I bet he won't ever forget those pads again!

He'll be fine, and he's enjoying the attention from everyone. I had a few casts on back in the day, and I remember all the girls in school giving me sympathy hugs. I remember thinking "damn, I should have broke that bone a long time ago!"

Ahhh yes, life gives you "extras" to go along with the already f**ked up crap you already are going through, we've all been there and I empathize. I hate this saying when I go through things, but "what does not kill you makes you stronger." I read the rest of your post, glad your son is home resting and that you are doing as well as can be expected.

While you, your son and wife bond strong this weekend, remember to laugh, keep a positive mind and...breathe. Good luck. MBPL

Oh good GOD Jim - do I feel your pain!

I am HYPER-allergic to Poison Ivy, but didn't know it until it was too late.

In 2003, I was helping Mark move some trees that he and a bunch of guys cut down from our property....I had the logs balanced on my right shoulder, along the top of my arm bicep, and held onto the end of them with my right hand.

About 24 hours later, I felt all-of-a-sudden EXHAUSTED, chilled, and dizzy......I went to sleep early that night, thinking that I was tired from all the work.

Yeah, right  :x

I woke up with POISON EFFING IVY on about 90% of my body.....I could hardly breathe, and I was hot and chilled at the same time.....my fingers had BLISTERS all over them, and my arms, chest, stomach, and top of my legs were swollen with breakouts.

I didn't have any Insurance at the time, so I had to do my "home remedy" - break the blisters, scrub with scalding hot water and "Dial" Anti-Bacterial soap (orange - liquid or bar), and THEN put Rubbing-Alcohol on the broken skin.

Seriously. That's the ONLY THING that'll work. :x :x

I got seriously YELLED AT by my Sister, who's an RN - telling me that I could've "suffered from Septic Shock".

But I didn't.

Still alive and kickin'

Damn girl! Mine is NOTHING like that. You must have had a very serious allergy to it. I've scrubbed my skin good, and I've used the steroids, as well as the steroid cream today. It seems to really be helping, and my welts are going down. The itching hasn't been bad for several hours now, and it's a NICE relief. :D

Thanks girl! The amazing thing is that he hasn't even taken any of his pain medication today. He's bouncing around like his usual self, and he's only had Motrin today.  I hope he feels as good tomorrow. Well, time to go eat and watch the last episode of 24... I HATE that they cancelled the show even worse than my poison ivy! :( :D Have a good night.
