Nickel and Dime

Postby S2M » Fri May 21, 2010 4:42 pm

IPod was on shuffle and some pre-Perry Journey came up. And I gotta say that stuff musically smokes any Perry song...check out Neal on Nickel and Dime. The progressive elements just radiate...

I have insomnia....so I MAY be delusional.

If you dug that, then you should have been at his HOB show with us. That would have upped the crowd size from 20 to 21.

Nickel and Dime is a great tune. Love Topaz too. I still want that Gens DVD, lipped or not, so I could have that first setlist preserved in good quality.

Bumping for Saint John, wouldn't want him to miss the post. He's got a thing about attendance stats.

Love that track. There was a thread here a year or two back that suggested Rush ripped this song off. You can definitely hear the similarities.

It was a definitely a lot more than 20. (Pretty big attendance in SD and SF) Obviously NS wasn't happy with the attendance in LA, but it was certainly a great show. He just needs to keep up the solo shows and watch the attendance increase.

  Yeah!! It was pretty obvious he was disappointed in the turnout!! I just hope it doesn't keep him from doing future shows. Maybe he should look at teaming up with Steve Lukather?? Now that would be great!!

yeahbut, one of Luke's bucket list projects is a collaboration with JSS. hmmmmm. the attendance will prolly be in the negative numbers--the bands won't even show up. :P

I LOVE Nickel and Dime. pre perry rox! (not that post perry doesn't-chill)

I was a bit surprised by the apparently low turnout for Neal's shows. I can only speak for the Luke show I saw, and he played in a small place, but he PACKED them in here in Cleveland. The place was exceeding its occupancy limit easily by 50-100 people and Luke actually had tears in his eyes at the ovation he got at the end - I was sitting close enough to him in this small place that I coulda reached out and snagged his guitar from him, so I saw it up close. I think Luke has more street cred in musician's circles, and there's quite a solid musician base here in Cleveland.

I don't even think they mentioned Toto on the billing for the Luke show I saw, either.

All kidding aside, I think Neal had crowds at all the shows except the last two (SD & LA). Even in L.A., there were at least 200 people at the start until they started filtering out after the first hour when they realized none of Journey's greatest hits were coming.

I think some people expected to hear dirty dozen Journey tunes.

Well, Neal will get his crowds back next year. As long as the drum kit behind him says Journey, he'll be all right.

Although Rolie can belt it, really not impressed with the pre-Perry vocals....I just like the music. Especially the instrumentals....

yup--It's mostly the instrumentals that make it much cooler than Perry Journey.

i was impressed that the modesto show sold out in advance. the sf fillmore show was pretty full, but not sold out, so no fillmore poster.
