This Day in History

Postby rockinfayrose » Fri Jul 23, 2010 11:32 am

I'm hoping this can be one of those long-running threads. So here's the deal...

Whenever you place a post in this thread, it has to be about a moment in history relating to that particular day of your post - whether last year, last decade, last century and so on. The more informative, interesting, and unusual the better. I'll start it off with 3 Most Popular Categories...

Music History - July 22,1963 - The Beatles' first U.S. album, "Introducing The Beatles," was released.

General History - July 22,1926 - Babe Ruth caught a baseball at Mitchell Field in New York. The ball had been dropped from an airplane flying at 250 feet.

Born on this Day - Don Henley was born July 22,1947

:) Okay, who's next...

I guess everyone is too enthralled with Dean's short stories in the "Writing" thread to post anything in here

On this day in...

1829 - William Burt patented the typographer, which was the first typewriter.

1945 - The first passenger train observation car was placed in service by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad.

There are umpteen websites one can visit to get this information on a "daily" basis...no need to "cut and paste" it here.

This day in history, Late July 1945 we were getting ready to load up the goods, pull chocks, and fly over the Pacific on our way to bomb the JNs. No home field advantage there.

Half the info posted on MR is 'cut & pasted' from some source as to share knowledge, education and information with others here- certainly nothing wrong with that  Just meant to be a fun little history lesson :)

Dude...let me fill you in on something...I'm NOT a "loon".

I like SP just like many of us on here. I DON'T "obsess" on him like some do.

The dude is 60 years old...time moves on. I can deal with it.
