What kind of leadership is this? The LoOser stirs up this big controversy by opening his big mouth and now he'll have nothing more to say. Thanks for nothing Barry, maybe the adults can come to the right decision and nuke this incredibly stoOpid idea.

Oh, please, the controversy had already been stirred up by the Republicans...what an absolutely ridiculous comment.

You need to wipe your mouth. There's some bullshit dripping from the corners.

I thought republicans were all about "state's rights"? If so, why would they even care what the President or anyone else has to say?

Nobody should be supportive of the developer of this Mosque, just on the principle fact he is an asshole.

He was asked if he will meet with family members of those who were killed on 9/11.

Sharif El-Gamal, the developer of the so called "Ground Zero Mosque," would not answer. In fact, when reporters asked him that question, he turned around and walked out of the room.

Fuck all these cocksuckers.

and if this is a local issue... WHY IN THE FIRST PLACE DID HE GIVE his opinion...

Hey I didn't say that stevew2. I didn't wish death on anyone in AR(unless RobbieG was passing through I would hope a tornado would carry him 50 miles in the air and dump him in Louisiana, breaking every bone in his body).

The only good thing to ever come out of there was the 42nd president of the United States.

Clinton leaving the state was a good thing, you mean. Not good for the U.S. as a whole, but good for Arkansas.

LOL, Steve wants to flood the whole state of Arkansas just because some rednecks gave him the finger. What did you do to them? Did you pee in their lake?

Yeah Rip, the guy was so bad at being governor he won 5 terms, and in the middle lost one, and came back and ran again and won. That should tell you something. Then as POTUS, he did nothing but create a huge surplus, and reduced the deficit. Yeah, those were troubled times indeed.

There is a reason he was able to come back and win, and the fact people bought his religious family man act proves how dumb and superficial most people vote. If he hadn't lost that first term, Chelsea Clinton probably wouldn't have been born.

All the rest of that... I do agree he was happy to take credit for all of it.

Uh, no he's not. Sarah Palin commented on it back in July on her Twitter page...THAT was the first public comment that started the debate. Then Newt jumped on it a few days later...and FOX picked it. I think it was even on the Daily Show before Obama made his comments.

The Republicans brought this to the national stage - not Obama.

9/11 was a national tragedy, folks. Not just New York was affected. I stand by my belief that this is the wrong thing for the Imam and his group to do. It really has nothing to do with freedom of religion, and you can't legislate 'sensitivity' (I'm really starting to hate that word...). I've heard proponents say that there is a similar mosque four blocks from the WTC site, and questioned why no one has objected to it. My opinion is that it PROVES that the opponents of this location are simply opposed because of the proximity of the site. That mosque was present in that site before the attacks on 9/11, and the fact that it is still operating after the attacks IMO proves the tolerance of the religion by the residents in that general area. I believe because of the fact that a part of one of the planes landed (excuse the pun) in that building it is considered part of ground zero. It is part of the larger picture that is ground zero. For those of you who haven't visited there, I'd encourage you to do so. You might understand it a little better than trying to listen to all the politicians spin it this way or that.

I have my doubts about the credibility of this Imam, and our State Dept embracing him after many of his anti-America comments could be what is responsible for the increase in hostility toward muslims/islam. He's a shady dude.

Ground Zero Muslim center may get public financing

(Reuters) - The Muslim center planned near the site of the World Trade Center attack could qualify for tax-free financing, a spokesman for City Comptroller John Liu said on Friday, and Liu is willing to consider approving the public subsidy.

The Democratic comptroller's spokesman, Scott Sieber, said Liu supported the project. The center has sparked an intense debate over U.S. religious freedoms and the sanctity of the Trade Center site, where nearly 3,000 perished in the September 11, 2001 attack.

"If it turns out to be financially feasible and if they can demonstrate an ability to pay off the bonds and comply with the laws concerning tax-exempt financing, we'd certainly consider it," Sieber told Reuters.

Spokesmen for Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Governor David Paterson and the Islamic center and were not immediately available.

The proposed center, two blocks from the Trade Center site in lower Manhattan, has caused a split between people who lost relatives and friends in the attack, as well as conservative politicians, and those who support the project. Among those who support it are the mayor, civic and religious groups, and some families of victims.

The mosque's backers hope to raise a total of $70 million in tax-exempt debt to build the center, according to the New York Times. Tax laws allow such funding for religiously affiliated non-profits if they can prove the facility will benefit the general public and their religious activities are funded separately.

The bonds could be issued through a local development corporation created for this purpose, experts said.

The Islamic center would have to repay the bonds, which likely would be less expensive than taxable debt.

New York City's Industrial Development Authority could not issue debt for the center because the state civic facilities law, which governed this type of financing for non-profits, was allowed to expire about two years ago.

No fucking way! If this shit happens I may move out of this fucking abortion people still call America.
Something like this just sets more precedence. Our country and culture are erroding away before our very eyes. We
have given up control to people who have no interest in upholding our way of life in America. The sheeple have lost
the ability to conceive any rational thought and less ability to act. Might as well sell stock in a Soylent Green factory
there.

But, that's not all they say. Not even in this thread. People view it as a triumph for terrorism and be an encouragement for it, that it will be a place for the next terrorist plot to be planned, that if they build it they and/or others will burn it down. That is crap, fear-mongering, and it's wrong. The fact that there are other mosques in the area that have been there for decades PROVE they are full of shit and are preying people's fears.

That mosque was present in that site before the attacks on 9/11, and the fact that it is still operating after the attacks IMO proves the tolerance of the religion by the residents in that general area.

And, the fact that this cultural center was proposed, discussed and approved over a year ago...and even people like Laura Ingram approved it...even calling it a peaceful thing....proves that this is all political bullshit being brought up in an election year to scare people into voting for Republicans.

"I can’t find many people who really have a problem with it. [Mayor] Bloomberg is for it. Rabbis are saying they don’t have a problem with it. [...] I like what you’re trying to do and Ms. Khan we appreciate it and come on my radio show some time."

Of course her opinion has now changed since the politics of the Republicans have changed - very predictable.

I say it's sad that people's emotions, actions, and votes are so easily manipulated.

I believe because of the fact that a part of one of the planes landed (excuse the pun) in that building it is considered part of ground zero.

Oh, blah, blah, blah. Get over it. It doesn't matter where it is being built, Sarah Palin, Newt, and Fox would still be bitching about it to get Republican votes. And, you would probably still be writing this same pointless post.

I have refrained from commenting on this topic and have only read page 15.

God, Allah, Hare Krishna, Jehovah or the many deities that humans worship are incarnations of humans. Religion is an incarnation of humans. Often times, religion is the spoken word, a scripture or an epiphany. One can interpret and become flamboyant on the initial word, freedom of expression if you will. Most religions advocate doing good towards one another. Where did the misconception of “my god is supreme” emerge? If you answered humans, you are correct. Humans who represent religious denominations have committed acts that contradict their preaching. Acts of molestation, rape, suicide, murder, corruption… are all intolerable acts.

The patriotic song by Lee Greenwood, "God Bless the USA" is a staple at military events and patriotic assemblies. I highly doubt God would advocate any military commemoration in thy name. God does not give a rat’s tail for any country. Like anyone who has created, repaired and assembled anything, you tend to revere it. Therefore, God reveres thy creations. It rests on all of God’s creations to revere thyself and one another. With all politics and ignorance aside, a mosque would be the ideal memorial for God’s creation. In addition, a temple, church, synagogue, shrine and any “home” revering The Great Creator(s) in the same exact location.

My preference would be the proposed park. A sanctuary for loss, healing, reflection... A place where children of all race and religion can intermingle. A place where ignorance is abolished with socialization.
