You were given a prescription for one of three widely-prescribed cholesterol meds when you had sought treatment for infection due to fire ant bites. Your regular physician had said you checked out fine in that dept., right? When my dad (R.I.P.) passed away, I couldn't believe the regimen of meds his three docs had him on. Anytime he developed some new issue, another "miracle of chemistry" was "the answer." I'm convinced all those meds taxed his body to the point he went sooner than he had to. Not to mention his cardiologist was a total schmuck who loved to practice evasion anytime I had a serious question for him.

People need to understand that the medical profession is a business.

People don't have to understand a thing from someone who's obviously not a doctor himself. But of course it's a business, and it has its obvious flaws - but your conspiracy sounding bullshit is ridiculous. You've been watching too many TV shows and movies.

You are particularly defensive when it comes to medicine. Are you a doctor yourself? A medical student? Do you come from a family of medical practitioners? Or are you just a hair-pulling pantywaist-apologist who frequently yips like a rabid chihuahua? It seems like you're full of opinions but can't handle hearing them expressed by people around you. Get used to it, Li'l Hitler. It's not up to you to dictate who says what and whose hand you can slap. More than likely you'll get punched.

By the way, there's nothing conspiratorial nor theoretical about what I've said. I'm just not a fucking sheep. So baa, baa yourself right into the labcoats' waiting arms. Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and sign up to be a drug prototype testee? Don't worry, I'm sure the worst that would happen is you'd suffer permanent impotence and sterility — not a bad thing by any means!

I'm used to hearing opinions all the time; but not in the caliber of stupidity as some of the shit you've been pulling out of your ass. It's just uneducated and paranoid mumbo jumbo from someone who has clearly no idea what he's talking about.

You're after all, the going against the grain rambo style motherfucker, who's not afraid to get a cold now and then. I'd love to see how you would have Chuck Norris'ed your way out of prostate cancer.

There's nothing "uneducated" about myself or the things I (am not afraid to) say. You don't even know me, yet you are quick to rush to judgement. Were you bullied everyday in school? You obviously carry a chip on your shoulder. For a guy who acts like he has such a big stick, you certainly talk like you're compensating.

What you are is merely a conformist, an unnoticeable pinhead in the mainstream of life who feels it's best to shut up, bend over and take it.

So you do that.

Meds are being peddled unnecessarily and quite often!! e.g.
I went to the doc a couple of years ago for fire ant bites on my foot,
which had become infected because I scratch like a dog ...I was put through a battery of tests, given a lecture on
my choice of shoe wear and left his office w/a prescription for Lipitor...WTF...
Nevermind the fact that just two weeks prior I had a complete physical exam by my OB and my
cholesterol checked out fine. Now I know this doesn't always happen ...but it does happen!!

The Chiropractor thing is just a waste of money when you can have someone walk on your back!!!

MG, I'm curious-are you sure you were SUPPOSED to have Lipitor or did the pharmacy make a mistake? This has been my big soap box lately because twice in the past four months my sister has gone to her pharmacy to pick up her meds and has been given the wrong med. The last time it happened she went in to get antibiotics for her 16 month old son-they handed her the bag, she went out to the car, opened it up to give him the meds and it was a NuvaRing!!! The package was labeled with his name and birthdate so it wasn't even a case of handing her the wrong person's presciption. Since I have been telling this story, nearly EVERYONE I tell has a similar story so it is VERY important to check your meds and if it doesn't sound right, call your doc to verify. I can see no reason that you should have been given an rx for Lipitor if you say your cholesterol was fine.

Her post is pretty clear. It wasn't the pharmacy's mistake. She left the doctor's office with the prescription, before which she had been subjected to "a battery of tests."

Well, my point was "left the doctor's office with a prescription" can mean a lot of things. My patients leave my office "with prescriptions" all the time but that doesn't always mean they have a piece of paper in hand-we usually call or fax it to the pharmacy.

Love reading about the pharmacy mistakes, and I'd bet money it was a pharmacy that starts with a "W"... and no I don't mean Wal-Mart, lol. Over all the years in my work I can't even begin to say how MANY mistakes that particular pharmacy makes. To the point where whenever my kids or anyone in my family needs meds for some reason, I REFUSE to take the RX's to that pharmacy. Full of a bunch of horribly educated pharmacists who can't even perform simple math problems let alone fill RX's properly. They make so many mistakes it seems it should almost be a joke, but it certainly isn't. Anyone who takes their RX's there... GOOD LUCK!

I literally feel like my own IQ has dropped a notch after getting off the phone with their pharmacists sometimes, lol.

Yes, it was a real piece of paper, he fully intended to prescribe this med.
I’m not crying “quack” here, this is a very reputable doctor …perhaps he was a bit
overly cautious of future complications, I don’t know!!
In all fairness to the doc, it was only the second time in 17 years he had seen me …I
saw a severely infected foot that was getting no better because it itched so bad I could
not keep my paws away from it, he saw a severely infected foot that was not healing
and was concerned about diabetes … I wanted my foot fixed, he was
concerned about my cholesterol level. I told the man that if he tied my hands behind
my back, I would scratch w/my teeth, he said my teeth looked healthy!! :?
We had a communication issue, but I did not need this med, I'm not diabetic, I have
very low blood pressure and no new cavities ...
