Twins had a great year, even with their injuries...had lots of players and their closer out for the year... still won a division... and spent half the money as the yankees or red sox...
The Twins didn't lose three of the top four hitters in their lineup. Also, they didn't lose their closer. He never pitched a game for them. They went into the season with someone else in that role and traded for Fuentes. Morneau (who is a great player and a huge loss) was the only significant player the Twins played most of the season (exactly half, to be exact) without. Mauer missed 25 games but that's not really news because he misses at least that many EVERY season. As for the money angle, you certainly won't get an argument from me. The Twins always find a way to be competitive with a low payroll.
It's a helluva lot easier to stack up W's in a division with Cleveland, Kansas City and Detroit, than it is with the Yankees, Blue Jays and Rays. I bet Minnesota makes up 20-25 games on the Yanks or Sox by beating up on thge Royals, Tiggers and the Tribe.
