I quite like Borderlines (very classy) and a few of the others. Horrendous production, and everything at the same S-L-O-W pace means this could be used as a cure for insomnia however. Ahh what could have been.

And that is the Strangeways reunion album. The overabundance of ballads that sound very similar to each other, means the record has a very slow pace to it. With the very slow pace of the album and the tendency of the songs to blend together, I find it unlikely that this album will be received all that well in the melodic rock community. The poor production doesn't help things one bit.
Stylewise, this is closer to the post-Brock albums than the classic AOR of Native Sons and Walk in the Fire—but with better vocals. It has been said, but must be said again that Terry Brock sounds absolutely fantastic on this album. These may well be some of his best vocals ever, and he has really progressed as a singer since the last time he recorded with the band.
Some of the songs here are actually very classy, but my feeling is that the overall pace is so slow, that most will pass over them without noticing their charms. That’s a real shame, as the material would stand out a bit more with a few more uptempo tunes and some separation in the sound mix. There is a bit of that Strangeways magic in there after all these years, but I don’t think this is what the fanbase was hoping for. Hopefully, the live performance at Firefest will let these new songs be appreciated by the audience as the production and tempo issues of the album will be resolved (theoretically).
It will be interesting to see where the band goes from here. A follow-up album with a return to a more uptempo pace might well be just what the fans are looking for.
