When Hollywood lacks inspiration for a good new movie, it turns to the classics, it has often been said. This proves to be the case once more as Warner Bros. is now working on a remake of one of the most known horror TV series, based on a horror book by Stephen King, “It,” featuring Pennywise the killer clown, Variety informs.

Not only is the studio thinking of the remake, but it has already got a head start, naming a director who would bring Pennywise back in all its terrible glory. According to the report, Dave Kajganich will act as director, while Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Doug Davison will produce. No further details have been announced as of now, but even so, it seems that the entire crew will have the work cut out for them since remaking the original TV series will certainly prove to be a challenge.

As the guys from SlashFilm also point out, Stephen King’s book has more than 1,000 pages, while the series itself, made and broadcast by ABC in 1990, run for approximately three hours. While taking all this material and transposing it on the big screen would certainly not bother diehard fans, it could prove a bit tiresome for that segment of the audience that is not accustomed to the story; therefore, Warner might try to cut it down to under two hours. This, in turn, would mean losing certain elements from the original series, which could, of course, end up doing more harm than good if not done in the right manner.

Hopefully, all these will be settled by the time “It” goes into production. Granted everything goes well, horror movie fans will have a blast with the remake, given that it deals with some of the most popular themes of the genre. As the official description of the novel goes, “‘It’ centers on seven children in a small Maine town who confront the source of a series of murders in 1958 and again in 1985, when the cycle begins again. They were just kids when they stumbled upon the hidden horror of their hometown. Now, as adults, none of them can withstand the force that has drawn them all back to Derry, Maine, to face the nightmare without end, and the evil without a name.”

I hope they do a good job with this. Tim Curry was excellent in the TV version and his makeup was awesome.

PLEASE HOLLYWOOD- Change the friggin' ending of the story. Stephen King couldn't write a decent ending if his life depended on it. The ending of "IT" is one of THE worst. The book was great EXCEPT the ending was cacka doodie!

Fix it or you will be my winter guest!

I agree with this 100%. When I watch IT (comes in two parts) I don't even pop in the 2nd disc because of how bad that dipshit "spider" is. That is shameful to the rest of the first half of the movie.

YUP. Wasn't it a turtle in the book? And either is STOOOOOPID. I couldn't believe when I read the book (I read it years before seeing the movie) how pissed I was at the ending. SUCH A GREAT BOOK and then the ending just blew. HORRIBLE.

Of course, when does Hollywood NOT feel the need to cash in and ruin anything they can get their hands on? All because newer generations are too ADD and stupid to want to go back and watch the movies because they are "old"

Some movies might end up better with remakes, and I'm not arguing that.

Movies like that should NEVER get the TV treatment.....big screen all the way.

I have heard that they are wanting to remake "The Wizard of Oz".

W H Y ?

They were going to remake "Yellow Submarine" by that same guy that did "Polar Express". Thank God that project got killed.

I think to remake classic films is pretty silly. When Star Wars (not a fan of...) redid their movies and updated the effects, I didn't have a problem with that because the late 70s effects were funky. Same with the redoing of the Star Trek episodes. Doesn't bother me. But to get completely different actors to remake a classic movie... what's the point?? They just remade "True Grit". WHY?

I agree....and they ALWAYS change the story. Just saw the trailer for Gulliver's Travels with Jack Black.....I don't even recognize the story. Granted, not a re-make of a film, but it is an adaption to literature....LAME-O.....

For the scare factor, yes, it definitely will be, because they can do up Pennywise hollywood style and make you need a change of britches by the end, but overall, this is probably a bad idea. With King's stuff, the mini-series route works better, in my opinion, because they can do a 4-6 hour series and cut less content. The Stand never ever would have worked on the silver screen. And the TV version of The Shining is a lot better than that piece of crap Nicholson version. Great book, but I hated what that film did to it.

If they're going to adapt King for the big screen, they should stick to the novellas, Like Secret Window,Secret Garden and The Body. Both of those worked great. The long stuff, no. Leave it be.

The Judy Garland OZ was a remake. Hollywood has been doing this since Edison created film.

Agreed...I LOVE that move, except for the ending. It is definitely one of the worst endings to a movie. You're strung along the whole time thinking this was some kind of demonic creature and it ends up being some stupid spider from outer space. Very disappointing.

I guess it was the lack of alcohol and coke. He can't even remember how he wrote the book (and other novels as well), that's how wasted he was. But drugs and booze seemed to bring out the best writer in him. No different from all the great classic songs that were written in the 70s and 80s.

+1

A LOT of flab...I remember cringing at the script a few times.

Tim Curry was AWESOME though.

Rumor has it that, while trimming some of the original TV content, they will be adding some other content supposedly to make a better story? But Tim Curry MADE that movie.
