Amen to that! I have a lot more respect for a singer who may not be a great singer and writes their own songs than someone who's a great singer but couldn't pen a decent lyric if their life depended on it.

Perry is my all around favorite but I cringe whenever I see the video for "Oh Sherrie." The song, as popular as it was, also sucks, especially the intro, imo. Can't help it. I just feel embarrassed for him for some reason.

That's harsh! Sinatra had everyone write his songs and made special many others that he covered as does Reba.
