Anyone else buy the new Michael Jackson album?

Postby G.I.Jim » Fri Dec 24, 2010 1:46 am

Just curious to hear what you think of the album. Please don't come in here just to hate on him. :? Anyways, I just bought the album a few days ago, and I really think it kicks ass! I wasn't expecting too much when I bought it, but there are some big hits on there. I'm surprised they haven't put out more singles off the album. "Monster" is probably my favorite. "Hollywood" is another great one. I like pretty much the whole album. Any thoughts?

Yep, I picked it up...

I listened to the songs first before I got it, because honestly, I wasn't sure it was going to be all that great. I'm not a huge fan on Invincible (his last album) so I wasn't sure what to expect.... but there were enough songs that I liked that I wanted to have it. I didn't like "Hold My Hand" all that much at first but it has grown on me... after a few more listens I came to appreciate it, and it's a bit catchy, really. I like Hollywood and Monster a lot too.

"Hold My Hand" grew on me too. It's not my favorite, but I still like it. Monster really caught me by surprise! I could definitely see that as a single, and I think it would be very popular with radio fans.

I'm not gonna hate on Michael, but alot of hate is due his estate. It is just a cash grab. Michael would not have collaborated with the artists that are on this record. IMHO.

He would and he did collaborate with them. Much of the album were things that were already in the works more than 2 years before he died. The Akon song was recorded in 2008 and was supposed to be on Akon's album, not Michael's. And Michael chose 50 Cent for Monster, but only Michael's part had been recorded, which is why 50 Cent's part wasn't recorded until after.

As far as Lenny Kravitz... “The song was recorded by Michael and myself. I produced it for him, I wrote the song, and I played all the instruments on the track. It was one of the most amazing musical experiences that I’ve ever had. It was done by two people who had respect for each other and who loved music.”

"Breaking News", Keep Your Head Up", and "Monster" are, in my opinion, not him.

I like the other songs a lot, though. I first knew "Behind The Mask" as an Eric Clapton track. Great to hear MJ sing it.

Well, people had also been saying (even prior to MJ's death) that Jason Malachi and Michael Jackson were the same person, and that it was a name he was using for various reasons. Also a goofy idea, but just more random things to cast doubt and rumors...

Now that suggestion that some of the vocals are not MJ has been floated, it will never be settled. People will believe it whichever way they want to, I guess. For me... I haven't seen or heard anything solid to make me think it isn't him. I'd need more than a youtube link.

Teddy Riley did say that some of the tracks were put through Melodyne, and admittedly, I don't know enough about those autotune programs to say for sure if that's why it sounds that way, but in that youtube link, the vocal does sound (to me) processed and not like an original untouched vocal.

Sony/Epic Records said that they had everything professionally analyzed (trying to find the specs on that... I read a big thing on it a couple weeks ago) when this was all being put together and didn't come up with anything squirrely. I mean, of course they're going to say that, they want to sell, but still...

Malachi himself 'says' he's had nothing to do with any of that, if we can believe that it's him saying it of course.... the twitter account isn't verified and what's funny.... for a musician with a new album out, he doesn't have his own website. Just FB, Twitter and MySpace which can be created by anyone... ooooh maybe it IS Michael.... LOL   I haven't looked enough to see if this guy has been interviewed anywhere (video, not print).
