He's a self-professed huge fan of the band, but has been less than thrilled with the reunion albums--not that I totally disagree with him. The diehards seem to love it, which is an amazing feet since I've never seen a fanbase with more differing opinions on how to rate the back catalog than Magnum fans. Never seen a band that deviated style so much from album to album either. Be interested to see the wombat's thoughts on this one.

well, I'm impressed, and I think he nailed it. I think All My Bridges was the first real old-school Magnum song since the reunion, but they have certainly upped the game a bit this time around. One of the most original bands out there (and that's very hard to do these days!), and I only wish I could see them live. Bob Catley is simply one of the most consistent and finest singers out there.

Rob's another one that I like his delivery. Whether it's a rocker or ballad, he always throws the song down with passion or emotion.
Supposedly this year, a new MB20 album will be recorded. Rob Thomas is interesting as having a very average vocal range and a VERY unique style of delivery to the point that he is instantly identifiable. The last solo album was pretty much Rob Thomas doing his self-proclaimed 80s album and turning into the new Phil Collins, but I see nothing wrong with that at all.
I think he is sabotaging himself in the long run by doing both solo and MB20 as opposed to building one into a live act that can draw large numbers of people --> you make more money playing to 25,000 people than to 5k (solo) or 10-12k (MB20).
Very good songwriter, and having a bit of the MB20 rock will be nice to hear again.
