Other end of the country for me, but we'll get the rain next week from this. Whole country is going to pay for this big time and we haven't even started paying for the flood damage yet!

Something tells me you guys will receive a check with Mr Obama's signature on it soon; it will likely be for a whole lot of money too.

Holy Crap Andrew  The shit storm just keeps on coming for you guys. It seems that you can't catch a break. Take care, be safe. :(

This is now as big a storm as a weather event can be on earth.

Dan texted me this morning and told me you are a big whining pussy and to shut the fuck up about the weather. Waaaaa Waaaaaa! Dude, ever hear of Hugo, Jeanne, Andrew, and uh, oh yeah, Katrina? And you counter with Yasi? Yasi? Jesus Christ, maybe you can get Farcry, Talon, Gotthard, Unruly Child, Vega, Houston, Silent Rage, White Widdow and good ol Steve Augeri to come play a relief benefit show for you Aussies. maybe you can bank a couple hundred bucks(Australian dollars). :P I hear Augeri is flawless live these days. :)

If it isn't phantom back spasms rendering him limp and incapacitated in the driveway, or the seemingly clockwork monthly immune-deficient Drew Flu, it's the fuckin' weather. We need to toughen you up, Drew. Perhaps you'll get that Perry interview if you predicate it with the understanding the 2 of you will also plant fucking pansies. The two of you can compare maladies over tea and biscuits.

Don't you have some snow to shovel and whine about!  Really though, people died from floods there and lost homes recently, and now are getting hit with catastrophic winds, worse than any hurricane we've dealt with. And they'll have more flooding, more death, and more homes lost! I'd be scared shitless if a storm packing that wind was aimed at us  Our cat 4 and 5 hurricanes are bad enough!

I'm in Pittsburgh, Lynn! :) And, yeah, Australia is getting hammered, but I don't think Drew's in the path of the major shit. Those other poor bastards are getting it terribly, but I think that's on the other side of the continent. Aussies are tough and they don't have gaggles of crybaby minorities that I know of, so I fully expect that they'll band together and get through this as well as any nation could be expected to. Unlike Katrina, I doubt the locals will embarrass their nation.

Yay!! They finally let you leave snow hell!! You'll have a lot less to shovel there I guess.

It doesn't sound like he's in the path, but it just sounds like he's worried about the people who are. They are tough, but I think Floridians are too, yet the images I can remember from Andrew and even Charlie, a much smaller storm that went through our area, were awful! I think about how just window leaks and wet carpet upset me, until I saw the videos of people with trees crashed into their roofs and impassible roads from downed trees! No electricity for 2 weeks!! We were lucky to have ours! And I think Charlie was a cat 3 or 4 inland? I just can't imagine at all what a storm like this will be like! I look at it, and because I've been in that sitting duck position, I just can't imagine at all!! And I'm talking about the wind alone, let alone flooding. I don't think you can prepare for something like this and where do they evacuate to on an island???

Perry is a helluva nice fella. I am sure he participates in Make a Wish Foundation. Perhaps Andrew could sign up as some back aching, weather bitching masochistic fuck, who needs desperately a Steve Perry interview before the end arrives.

Man, what is up with this fucking weather? Fuckin "A" I'm glad I live in Florida! Thank you baby Jesus! Fucking winter Ice storm/blizzard/freezing rain/, a giant tsunami in Australia. That's what happen when the earth tilt's a millimeter on it's axis. I just hope Florida is spared again this year from the hurricanes we had in 2004 when the back to back to back to back storms fucked up power, goddamn it was miserable. Learned my lesson though. Went out and hired someone to put in a generator back up system to run the whole fucking house. I won't sweat thru that hell again. And one other note. I hope to hell we don't send more aid to them bunch of sob Jihadistic Muzzies in egypt, we already give them 1.5 billion a year of your tax money. Anyway, my prayers to those in aussie land and in the midwest & northern states, bundle the fuck up!

I just read this, Andrew. Is Tasmania reallly as heavenly as it sounds? How did you end up there? What are the pro's and con's of living there? Is it expensive to live there since it is an island?

..............
Because there is a lack of vast metropolitan spread in Tasmania, the minimal artificial light reflecting in the night sky means it is an exceptional location for viewing the Milky Way and one of the wonders of the cosmos; the magnificent Aurora Australis. The air in Tasmania is also exceptionally clean, unpolluted by urban sprawl.................

How will these recent diasters affect Australia's economy? Because of mining?

Tassie is a big ass island that sits bang in the middle of one of the world's most trecherous seas, so basically there is always a breeze/wind blowing and it is as fresh as it comes. I can smell LA 30 mins before landing for example....LOL
Completely fresh air, the world's cleanest water supply (walk down the road and drink from the creek for example), cold crisp water strigth from the tap. We're also surrounded by hills/mountains and lots bushland. So fires are a problem, but only so often.

My ancestors are Irish and Scottish and more or less convicts, so I was born and raised here....just lucky enough to travel the world occasionally to see what else is out there. We are alittle isolated from everything, so costs are higher somewhat and availability of stuff is an issue (not a lot of competition), but at the same time, we (and me persnally) am sheltered from a lot of the world's BS (and the BS of the music biz!) due to the remote location, so I can deal with as much or as little as one wants to.

The weather is moderate - never over 100F and nevr below 40F generally (day time temps). Beauftiful clear skies for star watcing as you mentioned. Not many lights and what there is are hidden behind hills and valleys.

Good place to live - safe as hell.....but a little boring from time to time :)

Recent disasters will send price of food thru the roof...that's about it.

 Me too! But people living in the area are inhaling the smog daily, so they don't smell it anylonger.

So what's the word Andrew? How is Queensland faring after the huge storm? Between our giant winter storm and the trouble in Egypt, our media hasn't said much about it.

Bigger cities on the coast dodged a bullet, but a few smaller communities have been wiped off the map. ZERO deaths though. Amazing. More flooding now...

Well, after all, you don't have George W Bush running the government over there, or you would have had deaths. To be fair, Kathleen Blanco and Mayor Nagin also deserve the blame too.

When Katrina hit us, we lost people, lots of people. People died in wheelchairs and we just tossed blankets over them and they sat and rotted for days. It was embarrassing. The fucking Canadians came down and were the first in the water in resue boats treading through the 9th ward rescuing people. What was the US Military doing? Who the fuck knows? Escorting Airforce One around New orleans airspace so W could get a nice view from 2,000'. Aside from the JFK assasination, one of the USA's darkest, embarrassing moments.

4000 military/reservist personnel and additional SES volunteers poored into the area only hrs after the storm had passed. They are cleaning up now along with 1000's of residents. Very moving to see.
Incredible damage.

That's total bullshit. We live in the 21st century and in a civilized society. People were told to leave and simply decided to take their chances. They lost. And then there were those that stayed to be opportunists, knowing that the city in ruins would allow them to loot without consequence. The people of New Orleans embarrassed this country. They showed exactly what years of welfare and leaching off of the government does ... it makes you completely dependent, totally immobile and devoid of even the simplest survival skills. Katrina was by no means a glitch-free event, but no one should have still been there when Katrina arrived. When Katrina passed east of New Orleans (the hurricane was not a direct hit), the storm was likely a Category 1 or a Category 2. Check the final report by the National Hurricane Center for verification.

There was just as much calamity in Mississippi. The gulf coast of Mississippi was almost totally obliterated. They had a 28 foot high storm surge, 55 foot waves and suffered 125 billion in damage. However, the 3 coastal counties populated by 400,000 people (about the size of central New Orleans) most affected by the storm actually ... evacuated!!! Wow ... some common fucking sense was exercised.

There were also just as many white people affected by Hurricane Katrina, but they seemed to be much more self reliant and did far less, if any, looting. But you never heard about that did you?

I'll end with 2 factual texts taken from an article:

"It’s true that most of those killed by the flood waters were the poor, the old, and the sick. But when almost all of a metropolitan area is underwater, it’s equally true that the victims are black and white and Creole and Vietnamese, and rich, poor, and middle class. Television crews had an easy freeway off-ramp to the Superdome and the Convention Center, but they didn’t know how to get to neighboring St. Bernard Parish, a suburb where working-class white folks spent four days on their roofs in 100-degree heat with no food and water—a parish where nearly 90 percent of the housing was destroyed."

And here's a rebuttal to your mindless George Bush smack:

"Two independent teams of scientists and engineers investigated the cause of the flooding, and they reached remarkably similar conclusions. The event, they agreed, was a man-made disaster—the result of more than four decades’ worth of mistakes, misjudgments, and misfeasance by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the federal agency tasked by Congress to build a hurricane protection system for the city. Had the system worked correctly, one of the investigators said, the worst effect of Katrina on New Orleans would have been 'wet ankles.'"
