In 1981 I went to see the J.Geils Band at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.... my buddy and I were nearly 1st in line.. so when the gates opened we hoofed it straight to the stage and got great spots right up front...

So the show starts and this young new band called U2 comes out.. charismatic, enigmatic... and genuine... and by the last song they owned the place...

I haven't listened to U2 in a long time.. they've since lost that innocence they had in those early days... but to say they are underrate and overhyped... just not true...

No one gets to where they are without having been able to connect with people... and they did.. and for some still do...

What I'd rather know is...how was the J. Geils Band, those dudes rock.

J.Geils tore it up... they had to after U2 played...

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I could care less about U2's (ie Bono's) non-music exploits. For me, I love U2 because of the songs...I have and love every album, I love every style shift and experiment, and every nuance. I love it when Bono turns on the sarcasm and switches personas, I love Edge's playing, and when I saw the show in 2009 it was a damn near religious experience. Not every single song is a winner, but in a 30 year career, they have more great songs than almost anyone else of that age...IMO, of course.

Pelata, you make me wish I enjoyed their music more ...I love it when a band takes risks,
that alone commands respect, imo, plus playing the new stuff ...I may just check out a show!!

October is one of the best! I loved U2 since that album!
