I did. Even included a pic. (scroll back up a little bit) Mine was the ever-popular light metallic green and not the yellow one in the pic but yup, my first car was a 73 Gremlin.

It's a red X....no picture.

Hmm... Thanks. I fixed it.

The Holden Kingswood Stationwagon is justifiably an Aussie Icon. More than few of my friends lost their virginity in the back of one, and there was a rolled up mattress in the back of mine in case my licenced driver had a few and I couldn't legally drive home. Famous for comfortably fitting 6 people if sitting on seats, with another 4 able to sit comfortably in the back - and uncomfortably able to hold up to 20. Known for taking pretty much anything you can throw at it and keep going - the only vehicle to come of best in a car/wombat interaction. But HUUUUUGE - I just couldn't handle transitioning from a small motor bike where I could see everything to a land tank where I couldn't see the road for 22 feet in front of me.
Sam was a good car, and I did more than a few interstate trips in it. Still remember the licence plate, too - SAM606.

I had a blue station wagon once, so I get what your saying! LOL! 20 people? Was it a clown wagon? LOL!

I think that is what makes your first car special, the memories. Either the thing leaves you stranded all the time and you and your friends have the best laugh over it, or you had a sweet car, that was the stage for great things in your life!!

Yes, and sunshine yellow does match your personality. You are only cross when you need to be.

1969 American Motors AMX; inherited from older brother; black leather interior; 390 V8; ran on premium gas; affectionally named the Green Sardine. It was a car-guy magnet.

For the first two months after I got my drivers license at age 16, my brother and I shared a car that our father had given us. After two months I bought a 1967 Ford Mustang. That was in the summer of 1988. I sold the Mustang in 1994. The first brand new car that I bought was a Saturn SL2 in the spring of 1992. I just sold that Saturn this past Christmas-Eve day.

It is just a little bit if fun that I do for each post that I write. I never write a post that with my sig in mind, but when I get ready to add the (insert word here) part I reread my post and try to find something unique or funny or that my have a special meaning to just me. In this case the 87' part was when I had a several life changing events happen such as: graduated from High School, moved to Fullerton Calif, got my first car, almost died from hepatitis & mono, got my first "real" job. When I first started here I actually suggested that others try it out and have some fun with it by making it a game.

By the way, you are the first person ever to ask about it.

I had a 72' Pontiac Lemans Luxury Sport Coupe in Yellow with a Black hardtop. Damn thing was fast had that car around 92' or so. This was when the first Stealth RT Turbos came out, I had a friend who wanted to race and we got on I-275 in Kentucky heading into Ohio and raced them at 2am. I won hands down, the signal to stop because your car had no more left to give was to flash your lights, he did and I still had plenty of pedal left, my speedometer was pegged at 140mph. I was also very very VERY firggin' stupid for doing that, but I was young and dumb. At those speeds if you see something, you pass it. No true real reaction time. Not to mention that I started with a full tank and had to refill it (almost) afterwards.

Mine had 350 2 barrel rated at 155 hp

It was a fast car but I never drove above 80.
It wanted to go on the highway & I had to slow it down.
'Mine was from the oriuginal owner & had 55K when I got it . My Mom then used it & it then went to my sister in law

1964 Chevy Impala (4 door). Purchase price - $300.

Aptly named Sherman Tank, Sherm for short.

Great car. 283 2-speed started everytime I turned the ignition, 20 below or 100. Well, except the time I was out in the country parking with HS flame and ran the battery down. Interesting thing, even though an automatic, you could push start the engine. Only problem was I alternated putting in a quart of transmission fluid and oil about everytime I got gas...which was often as I usually only put in about $5 worth at a time.

Had a bare metal dash so I cured that by gluing on some hairy-fur material. Warmed up the interior nicely. Beat a shag rug, but barely.

Roomy back seat...sweat.

Known throughout the community for its loud stereo. Started with a Craig Powerplay 8 track with matching Powerplay speakers. They could really thump, but highs sucked. Van Halen's Eruption and Runnin' with the Devil could be played at full volume with no distortion. Graduated to an underdash Pioneer Supertuner and then Supertuner cassette with equalizer and Jensen Coaxs. Upgraded to Triaxs and then Trix IIs.

It was great how you could install your own and run wires so easily. With the stereo, equalizer/amp and CB and four speakers, this huge mass of wires would always drop down. Pissed me off, no matter how hard I tried it wouldn't stay up under the dash.

I digress, but man I loved that car.

My first car was a 1961 Rambler American. (The picture below is showing you the year of car I had.) I didn't have a convertible top (damn it!). Mine was beige, not red. The passenger seat back would go down to make a kind of bed. The transmission was a doozy... It went like this... Park, Neutral, Drive, Drive 1, Drive 2, Reverse. ( Aye, you had to go through all the drive gears to get to reverse.) I believe the transmission was changed in 1962 to what automatic transmissions are today.

Technically my first was a 1988 Lincoln Continental.... behold:

Image

(this thing was like driving the Titanic! But the Lincoln hood ornament made awesome crosshairs for parallel parking!!)

but it was never in my name, so...my official first was this, minus all the filth and rust...

Image

It was either an 87 or 88 Oldmobile Cutlass Calais that was handed to me in 2000. (sister got it in '97 when our grandpa passed on)

See on this one how all the paint on the roof is gone... must have been a thing with those cars, because the same thing happened to mine, all the paint peeled off in big slices.

1978 Oldmobile Cutlass Salon. for the duration of the two years I had it if I remember right I think I only had two cassette tapes that I played in it constantly- Seven Wishes by Night Ranger and Escape by Journey. Now days if I dont have all six spots in my CD changer fiilled and my IPOD with 1000+ in the auxilariy slot I moan that I have nothing to listen to .
