Barry Bonds' gift to Bryan Stow

Donations, contributions and other efforts have poured in after San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow was beaten in a Dodger Stadium parking lot on Opening Day.

But one quiet gesture has especially touched Stow's family, something that will affect his two children years down the line.

Former Giants star and embattled figure Barry Bonds has volunteered to pay for the college education of 12-year-old Tyler and 8-year-old Tabitha.

"It was extraordinary of Barry Bonds, I thought," Stow family attorney Thomas Girardi told NBC Bay Area KNTV. "He didn't say anything about it to the press. This was just a gift he gave the family because he knew that it was going to be pretty important to the kids."

According to KNTV, Bonds spent an hour with Stow on April 22, when the 42-year-old paramedic was still at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center. Stow was moved May 16 to San Francisco General Hospital, which is closer to his family and where he remains in critical but stable condition under heavy sedation to prevent seizures caused by the traumatic brain injury.

Bonds also left a signed baseball bat for Stow's children, according to KNTV.

Stow's family filed a civil suit against the Dodgers in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday, seeking unspecified damages to cover Stow's future medical care and as compensation for the economic damages to Stow and his children. The family wants to return money that has been donated to the Bryan Stow fund, but will accept Bonds' gift because it "means so much to them."

Other members of the Giants have visited Stow as well, including pitcher Jeremy Affeldt, and Tim Lincecum has given $25,000 to the Bryan Stow fund.

Los Angeles police arrested Giovanni Ramirez, 31, on Sunday but charges have not yet been filed against him. They have not identified a second attacker or a woman suspected of driving the pair from the scene. Los Angeles police chief Charlie Beck called Ramirez the main aggressor.

Ramirez was being detained on a parole hold, with bail set at $1 million. Detectives still had not presented their case to the district attorney's office. Detective Pjai Morris said additional investigative work was being carried out, but he was confident the case would go forward.

Nothing like buying yourself some media goodwill gesture. Whoppdie shit? The kids will run up a 50K San Jose State tuition for 4 years. That was 2 roid engaged home runs knocked out of Candlestick, or 12 done the old fashion way out of Three Rivers, Pittsburgh. Get it?

Sorry, no kudos to that sonofabitch Barry Bonds. I hope he gets rolled over by a possessed Cable Car that leaves the tracks and chases his black ass down Lombard Street, then for good measure, drops a rail wheeled elbow drop on Barroid in the Bay.

Please don't come in here defending that POS Barroid AnnePea or even you CP....not that you would. This isn't a shot against the Giants, a truly class organization if there ever was one. The San Francisco ball club "acknowledges" Barroids HR record because it has to, but not to the level that a deserving solid citizen would demand.

Haha… RnD is a legend on MR with his rant posting style. Been a SF Giants fan all my life, and it’s safe to say BB gets a pass with all of us because of his legendary stature among any who has ever put on a Giant uniform….right up there with his father, Bobby, and godfather, Willie Mays. Sure, his accomplishments now are forever tainted after steroid use (which never really been proven, actually). It’s sad that, unlike other players also implicated, he was already a superstar before all this started.

I suppose ego led to his wanting to bulk up, giving him more prodicious (sp?) power. It’s been speculated that Barry was jealous of the attention given to baseball’s big homerun hitters (Jose Conseco & Mark McGuire were the “Bash Bros.” playing right across the Bay). And, then, when McGuire broke the single-season homerun record with St. Louis, it really sent him over the edge.

Local sports people also give full credit to BB for the Giants beautiful ballpark, often saying that if not for a marquee player like Barry Bonds on the team, AT&T would never have broken ground. Really, when you think about it, the Giants, before getting Barry over from the Pirates, were a hohum team, playing in the projects and bowel of Hunter’s Point…dingy and cold wind tunnel that is Candlestick Park.

On the subject of Giants baseball, somber all over Giantland with the loss of Buster Posey for the season. Just got off watching the BA sportsnet shows, and the talk is of all injuries that could be sustained by a catcher, leg injuries are the worst possible (in this case, ligament and ankle broken in several places), since he relies on a good set to go from squat to stand, and be nibble quick pushing off to throw out runners trying to steal. Never mind losing his bat…Buster is (was) an excellent defensive catcher…throwing out runners in club record clip. The fear is he will never be the same defensively again. And he’s only starting his 2nd yr in the big leagues. What a bummer…. I’m going to bed, now.
Not sure if anyone is on the boards here anyway.
