Background and context of the pictures:
These were taken at the scene of a single vehicle accident (don't worry, there's no gore) that occurred one chilly November morning a few years ago on I-17 between Phoenix and Flagstaff. The driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and left the roadway plowing right through the guardrail, becoming airborne, sending the vehicle over a drainage culvert, and finally coming to rest on its wheels but facing the opposite direction he was originally traveling. The driver survived with only minor injuries. In fact he was able to walk back to highway and flag down help.

The accident happened at around 4:00am. That's important to remember as it's still dark here in AZ at that time of the day. As dawn broke, daylight revealed just how lucky the driver was as it could have been far, far worse..
