Atheists have no songs till now!

Postby artist4perry » Sun Dec 11, 2011 6:10 pm

To all my atheist friends on MR I just wanted to say no hard feelings, but wanted to share my sorrow that you have no songs... until now. Here is one Steve Martin wrote just for you. We can all share a good laugh. Enjoy!

You know, religious people have such beautiful music and art;
And atheists really have nothing...

Until now!

A little tune called "Atheists Don't Have No Songs"

[Lyrics]

(Christians have)
Christians have their hymns and pages.
(Hymns and pages)
Hava Nagila's for the Jews.
(For the Jews)
Baptists have the rock of ages.
(Rock of ages)
Atheists just sing the blues.

(Romantics play)
Romantics play Claire de Lune.
(Claire de Lune)
Born agains sing He is risen.
But no one ever wrote a tune.
(Wrote a tune)
For godless existentialism.
(For godless existentialism)

For Atheists,
There's no good news.
They'll never sing,
A song of faith.

In their songs,
They have a rule.
The "he" is always lowercase.
The "he" is always lowercase.
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/s/stev ... songs.html ]
(Some folks sing)
Some folks sing a Bach cantata.
(Bach cantata)
Lutherans get Christmas trees.
Atheist songs add up to nada.
(Up to nada)
But they do have Sundays free.
(Have Sundays free)

(Pentecostals sing)
Pentecostals sing, sing to heaven,
(Sing to heaven)
Gothics had the books of scrolls,
(Numerologists count)
Numerologists count, count to seven,
(Count to seven)
Atheists have rock and roll.

For Atheists,
There's no good news.
They'll never sing,
A song of faith.

In their songs,
They have a rule.
The "he" is always lowercase.
The "he" is always lowercase.

Atheists
... Atheists
... Atheists

Catholics,
Dress up for Mass.
And listen to,
Gregorian chants.

Atheists,
Just take a pass.
Watch football in their underpants.
Watch football in their underpants.

Nice one, shame it's not funny though.
Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear. - Thomas Jefferson

American Idol and Glee are proof that there is no God.

I'll write a song, lol... Pick a popular hymn or Christmas tune and I'll pen the lyrics.

Steve Martin hasn't been funny for over 20 years.

See, so much more fun to laugh at our differences. By the way Paul McCartney did a song on the album with Steve Martin, thank goodness he didn't sing on this one! He admitted he can't sing. But the lyrics are funny, also listen to a song called Jubilation Day, the album is Bluegrass. Jubilation Day is about a girl who dumps a guy.

I grew up with Bluegrass music, my father is an avid fan. I was trying to find some old group he loves on youtube so I could find the name of the group and this album came up. My husband and I are going to buy it sometime. I actually love some myself. It is old music, much to the heart of my ancestors. It originated with the Irish/Scott settlers in Kentucky.

Steve Martin talking to David Letterman about asking Paul McCartney to sing on the Bluegrass album......funny!
