On one hand, I really think the community property concept in divorces is deplorable. For example, Vanessa Bryant (Kobe's bimbo wife with not a skill or educational credit to her name) willingly stood by for another 7 or 8 years just waiting for the 10 year trigger for her rights to vest under California law. There really is no need for her to get that much money just for spreading her legs and connivingly standing idly by for a few extra years living the high life while he put his dick in anything with a hole. She's worse than him! And no, she didn't stay together to try and work it out for the kids or for herself. She knew full well what she was doing. And more importantly, she knew what he was doing vis-a-vis all his side bimbos.

On the other hand, it's obviously only a default rule and these buffoons should get prenups.

I wouldn't wish marital infidelity and/or spousal verbal or physical abuse on anyone, man or woman, but there's no need for a spouse who rides the coattails (and please, don't feed me nonsense about keeping the home or raising the kids, these celebs have butlers, cleaning people, and the like) of the other spouse's massive earning power to get all that money. If the spouse does something deplorable, like physical abuse, there are other financial remedies. Defaulting to a Solomonesque split down the middle is just lame.

I agree with what you're saying completely, but as to why he didn't get a prenup, I know plenty of people who wished they would have but felt if they did that it would be a sign of distrust regarding their spouses.

They were married for 30 years and had 7 children together!!! The only reason they even separated is that Robyn couldn't deal with his alcoholism anymore. He was just a struggling young actor when they married in 1980 I believe it was right after he filmed the first Mad Max film. Mel didn't have anything to prenup! Why shouldn't she get half of everything? She's not just some gold digging bimbo that he met and married after he made his fortune. Get serious! Of course she deserves half. Most of the money she gets will wind up going to his children/grandchildren anyway. It's not like any of that money made him happy. He's a pretty messed up guy.
