You must be fat to be calling a kid fat. And let me see, did Van Hagar the horrible have a #1 hit, let me see, nope, nope, not one. Hagar the horrible came into a win, win, situation when Roth walked away. Coming off the exposure of MTV, Coming off the biggest tour they ever done, coming off "1984", which the only reason that never hit #1 was because of fat fags like you who loved "Thriller the driller". That said, I know this isn't the Van Halen of 1976 thru 1984.
They were young barnstormers who backed up their bravado. They made new rules. Great records, great live experience, musically talented with amazing showmanship. Right up there with all the greats in Rock history, on the stage. Remember the radio take overs?...they didn't worry about being "fan friendly". Save the hugs and snuggles for Sam Hagar. Van Halen WAS an event, it was water cooler talk for days.

But Father Time robs the rocker. That reality sux. Dave's image of "I fucked your mother & your sister at the same time" is gone, we all know it. Their late 70's & 80's concerts was a once in a lifetime chance, same as when any of the big time bands were in their youth. NOTHING could touch that shit. The 2007 tour was "good". But had you called a 1981 VH show "good", Roth's midget security would have gang tackled you, and you'd be B*tched slap. Good? That would an insult. Good is the word reserved for Van Hagar, the Journey's of the world. Sorry you missed out back in the late 70's and early 80's when they took no prisoners. That was MAGIC. Now go put on your Chickenshit album and pull Mikie's & Sammie's dick for them and say no more.

It'll be "Good" to hear EVH back out there again as well, with new material, expecting FairWarning Part II is not realistic.

Yea, Don't listen to the new Halen. Stick with your chickenshit and eat it.

I concur. Listen to a band who actually plays their instruments live and has fun while doing it instead of listening to a band who pipes MA's backing vocals in through the PA system during a concert and hasn't released a good album since 1992.

All this talk about MA's backing vocals is absurd. IT IS BACKING VOCALS! You MA fans act like the backign vocals are more import than even Eddie's guitar. I swear MA fans need to get over it. ENJOY THE RIDE FOLKS! And I agree, Chickenfoot sucks!

AMEN!

But, let’s be fair. I myself only saw Van Halen once with DLR. It was the 1984 Tour. Now, not sure if you remember this but there was a contest on MTV called…The Lost Weekend with Van Halen. One watcher was able to go on a weekend tour with VH. They broadcast parts on MTV. I was at the show….in Detroit. I do not know if this was typical, but Van Halen was drunk (high) off their asses. MA – his bass solo was him jumping and rolling on it. There were also drunken 15 minute Eddie Van Halen solos. The longer the show went the more unrecognizable their songs became. The show while fun was really a musical mess. I have a feeling that when I go see them this year they will be much more coherent. So in some respects this tour is better.

I agree it's all about Eddie's guitar, but until the band can put out another good album and actually play and sing their shit live they're no better than Journey with Augeri. It's not hard to sing backing vocs even if they aren't as good as the original recording. For them to be piping in MA's backing vocs in the live setting is a fucking joke. Also you speak of Eddie's guitar playing? I saw VH back in 04 and he fucking blew because he was drunk or high the whole show. I'm a VH fan through and through, but just like it was with Journey and the lipping thing if they want to try that shit in a live setting I'm going to give the band shit. I'm a VH fan through and through and even am one of the few who admit to liking VH III. Them not playing or singing live = bullshit at $70+ a show.

Also I dig Chickenfoot.

I'm a fan of the Van Hagar years and have never liked DLR. I didn't start liking VH until Sammy joined. I agree David is a great frontman for VH though.
I am truly happy, however for all you diehards who love the original band.

But to say Chickenfoot sucks is just plain ignorant. They are a great band and sound amazing together.

Eddie will always be one of my favorite Gutarists but I will always think the band sounded better with Sammy and Mikey's vocals.

Anyway, I hope you long suffering VH fans enjoy the shows this summer. You deserve a new album and tour.
I did see the 2007 tour with Dave and did enjoy it, but I really do like Sammy better. He's just a better musician than Dave and that is what really matters to me when it comes to music. Not showmanship. I never did get Rolling Stone magazine. I think critics should rate musical bands based on thier MUSICAL TELENT above influence and showmanship.
I will get the new CD and enjoy it with the rest of you though. For those of you who keep saying Chickenfoot sucks, have you even listened to the new album? It's really fantastic. At least listen to track 4 "Up Next".

Listened to tattoo and also to all the youtube clips from the Cafe show.....Meh.... Tattoo is OK, She's A Women is a nice reworked song and once I hear the rest of the tracks I may buy the album, but honestly (and no offense to anyone who is a VH fanboy) this band lacks energy.

Dave's voice is failry toast and Eddie is often out in LA LA Land with his live playing. I'm a classic VH fan and even like a fair amount of hagar era stuff, but this new album will have to really offer something better than what I've heard so far for me to buy it. And the shows are just too damned expensive to go to anymore. Sorry folks but this is FAR removed from the VH you grew up with. Enjoy it while you can though... :-)

And to the poster who thinks Chickenfoot sucks.... you're entitled to your opinion, but step outside the VH circles and a lot of people will disagree with you.

It sure is funny How a lot of people are bagging on the Tattoo. Because it's now #1 on the rock charts. And guess what? Their are 12 other songs coming s keep your hot air ballon full.

There's always going to be haters. To see Van Halen live again is going to be kick ass... and the new album will be good. From reports from radio people who have heard the entire thing, apparently Tattoo is one of the weakest, if not THE weakest track... and that the rest is going to rock!

I'm reading how the "band is getting slammed for redoing old songs on this new cd. What's funny is they have been doing that since Van Halen 1 and on. Songs like" House of pain", Hang em high", "Mean street", "In a simple rhyme" and lot's of others were written way before Van Halen 1 came out. its nothing new, its the same formula they have been doing for years. They've been writing music since the 70's, ring a bell? People are screaming, "That artwork on the album cover looks just like" ______ fill it in motherfucker, fill it in. Who's give's a rat's fucking ass what's on the cover? They should have had a big bowl of M & M's with one brown one in the middle with Spammy boy's face on it. Most people will probably download it illegally anyway. Do you drive around and listen to the music or do you chuck the cd out the window and just stare at the cover for hours on end? I mean for fuck's sake and album cover does not make the music. People cry, "Lame video", again, who give's a shit. MTV doesn't pay video's anymore, so why would someone beside's a yapper or teeny bopper spend a ton of money making one? I wouldn't give a shit if these song's were re-worked covers, re-worked out takes, better yet re-record "PoundCake" with DLR on the mic and it will be x100 better than spammy boy sang it. Dave Fit's the band and Style of Edward Van Halen, it's that simple. They say they probably don't have "the fire" that the use to. No fucking shit, they're in their 50's and no longer fueled by massive amount's of the Devil's Dandruff. Sure Dave doesn't sound the same as he did 25 years ago, so fucking what, he fits and IS the STYLE of Edward's magic. He is what he is, someone who has lived a life we all just wish we could have. And people whining like a grape that Michael Anthony isn't there, his backing vocals this, his backing vocal's that. Hell, when I went to see Van Halen, it sure wasn't cause my ear's were fucking getting all excited about hearing Mike's BACKING vocals. Even your illustrious Satriani has said, and I quote, "I had No idea what Michael Anthony sounded like until I started playing with him a few years ago and I am huge Halen fan". Now, that's how fucking prominent the bass used to be in Van Halen. Would I have liked to have seen MA back? Sure, just like I would like to see Steve Clark Back with Leppard, Freddie Mercury back with Queen, Ace Frehley back with Kiss, but it's not happening and life goes on. Dave's Style and Eddie's guitar is what made Van Halen the biggest American rock band in history.

I agree with a lot of this though I do admit to liking some of Sammy's solo work, just not a big fan of his time in VH).

I'm looking forward to this album and plan to get tickets myself...with that said, I don't think at this stage they are a better band than say Chickenfoot and I do prefer Van Hagar in the day.

Still, I look foward to seeing Roth strut around to "I'll Wait"...the only issue with the new album is that some of the great stuff they played in 2007 obvioulsy will have to be cut from the set to make say for the new stuff. That's cool as well, just loved hearing classics like "Ice Cream Man"...

The funny thing is, that although I preferred Van Hagar, I don't think I would have a great deal of interest in seeing them play together live again. It's like that time has came and went...With Roth, it's more of a retro deal for sure....

I did love the Sammy/Dave tour, although Roth was not in near the shape that Hagar was at the time. It would be even better now. Hard to believe though that Sammy is quite a few years older than Dave...
