Adele keeps rolling along at #1

Postby Don » Wed Feb 01, 2012 2:55 pm

Adele is up to 18 weeks at #1 with her album "21."
Over 6 million copies sold just in the U.S. alone. With all the talk of pirating and the decline of whole album purchases, this girl just keeps on defying the trends. After blowing her voice out earlier on tour, she will be making her comeback performance at this year's Grammy Awards.

Unreal the success that thing is having.
Like it but still like Gaga's Born This Way better.

She's talented but her songs have been completely ruined by radio play for me. I don't even listen to the radio, but I've been overexposed just going to the grocery store, gym etc.

But still, better to see her on top than some goof like Justin Bieber

Really? I never got into Born This Way. I bought it when they had it for the 99 cents deal. I gave up after a few times, except for a few songs like Edge of Glory. Adele's 21 is amazing.

And you guys know why Adele has the #1 selling album? Because she puts out good music! It's not this computerized, auto-tuned crap that is all about "th' club". It's real music by a real talented singer. I am getting tired of her song "Someone Like You", but it is a beautiful song. "Set Fire To The Rain" is an AWESOME song and easily my favorite from Adele. I've listened to this entire album and it's all good stuff to me.

I just wish all of this auto-tuned club music stuff would just all go away. The only dance pop artist I like is Katy Perry, because her songs are surprisingly addictive, but the rest I can live without. As for Lady Gaga, I like Madonna better.

I would like Adele to sing a happy song.

I think she's excellent, but I find her delivery very mournful.

Well, it appears her creative angst that propelled her Music is over.
Supposedly, she's madly in love.

Hope it doesn't cramp her style. 8)

Well it's time she got over that break up, that's for sure.

She needs to cheer the f**k up and give us something jolly!

Come ON girl, time to stop wallowing in it - you've made enough money from it now, move on up.

Ehhh..I'm gonna have to go with Linkin Park on this one. Arnie is a little bit too artificial on songs like this that require a bit of showmanship. Adele's music has bit of the minstrel vibe to them so I'd rather it be a western sounding vocal (as opposed to The Far East) presenting it.

That was the 20th song out of a 25 song setlist so Chester might have been a bit tired there.

I agree. Man, go into a store you hear her, turn on the radio, you hear her. I'm already over this one year wonder.

Great to see somebody with actual talent and great pipes sitting at number 1, instead of shock value or cuteness. Same goes with Bruno Mars, I hope they both make a killing at this year's Grammy's.

I want her to now write/perform some stuff with a cool groove to it.

Time to move away from the maudlin and mournful stuff.

Madonna over Gaga? I think Madonna is one of the best business minds there is, anyone with such
a small amount of talent who can remain as popular as she has obviously knows what she is doing!
but Gaga is the real deal, sings live, exceptional vocals, yes she is somewhat of a copycat, but wayyy
more talented in my opinion.

I disagree. A great voice rangewise isn't everything to me. Gaga's music leaves me cold, for the most part. Though, her Fame era had some really catchy tunes. I loved Madonna's pop voice (beautiful tone), especially in the '80s and '90s. And she always put out a well-rounded pop catalogue. She put out some of the best pop ballads of that genre. Gaga is gimmicky dance with some great songs. She doesn't even put out ballads, and what slow cabaret type songs she sings in concert she ends up straddlng the guitar and piano and then talking about her Little Monsters. She takes the emotion out of it. Madonna has put on some of the best pop concerts of all time. That makes her very well-rounded as a talent. I will take that over someone who has better range than Madonna. Gaga has promise because she can write and I have loved some of her live performances. We'll see if she's saavy enough to know how to evolve musically. Born This Way was just okay. Madonna's new album's lead single is quite basic, nothing great. Her earlier work had more sophistication to it. I hope her new album has some gems like the brilliant Ray of Light did, instead of chasing the young market for sales. We'll see . . . . . .

My favorite song - Crazy for You - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IC6udi2BDqE

Madonna trailblazed how pop concerts could be broken down into themes and stories and from which all young pop stars draw from but have yet to match.

Live fromt he iconic Blond Ambition tour 1990 - Like a Prayer = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Xvjnay4 ... re=related

Madonna's album this week was pre-orders and her new single, which Interscope is going all out to market, I see rising up the charts after the Super Bowl and the Clear Channel deal to play at the top of every hour but then dropping way down the charts because it's just average. Although, it is a little poppy and catchy, so maybe it will stay on the radio charts. People are pre-ordering her album on iTunes for a week promo, I think it is, and getting a bonus track and also the new single downloaded immediately as part of the deal for like 9.99. So that can't count towards the top ten chart anyway for single. Her album doesn't drop until later in March.
