Admittedly, I've not been to this forum as much as I should have been in recent months, or even recent years. But when I saw that Jeff Scott Soto posted of Dean's passing, I thought it appropriate to at least stop by and say....something.
When I first started at the MelodicRock Forums, I was welcomed in a lot of different ways, by a lot of different people. Most unique, beyond any doubt, was that special way Dean "made me feel welcome". I don't even remember what band it was, but we immediately started the "war" between each other in front of the forum...while, behind the scenes we were joking about how to carry it further and make it look "better". That's just the way that he was, as I came to find out. You had to get to know the guy behind the "facade" to actually know what kind of guy he was. He loved his family, most of all, and if there was anything that got that close....it was the music. And whether anyone liked him, hated him, respected him, or despised him, there was certainly no doubting that he knew his stuff. Sadly, as soon as, it seemed, that I was just getting to really know the guy, for one reason or another, I went elsewhere.
Looking back, I'm glad, briefly, I got to know the real "Dean". To find out the truth behind the man. That he was really a fun-loving family guy who really enjoyed pushing people's buttons....As JSS posted..
"a crazy guy with a big heart, those who knew him knew he meant no harm, those who didn't thought he took things too far but in the end, I really dug the guy. "
I can't say it any better. I'm just sorry I didn't hang around more often. It's my sincere hope that Dean is up there....no...scratch that. I feel pretty confident that Dean is up there looking down on us laughing because we're making a big deal... But... one thing is for certain... the legend that is Dean-O.... will live on.
For the little time I got to know him....I can say I have met few that would, could, or ever will compare. Plus...the guy gave me hell and ran with it...and very few people have done that before or since...
Rock In Peace Dean. My condolences to Wyatt and Lulu.
