With civil cases, lawyers usually work on a contingency fee basis which means they get a 30-40% cut (if not more) of what ever the victims settle on. 33.3% is the average, which is way too much in my opinion.

I know 30 to 40% sounds high, but those guys can work on a case for months, and if their client loses, they get nothing. Plus, a contingency lawyer is going to work harder to win the case. A regular lawyer gets paid either way.
