I remember taking my record player and that album to school for show and tell. I played Black Dog. Afterwards my teacher asked, what happened Stephen?
You normally bring pet Rats, Rabbits, Dogs & Cats. I told her my Mom thought it was cool and told me I needed to share it. :D
Was there an album that represented rock-and-roll more than the Zoso album did at the time? I think not. Sure, there were other albums which were gigantic in terms of sales and airplay, but LZ IV was the quintessential rock album of it's day. I can't remember how many years in a row Stairway was rated the No.1 rock song in the various Top 100 and Top 50 countdowns on radio stations across the country - and I have to assume, the world.

I'm glad people are starting to post complete albums so I don't have to tear the house apart!

Yeah, YT will do in a pinch but the quality is usually so damn shitty you can barely stand listening to it. Thank God for Torrents and lossless compression!
Now, there are some exceptions to this. For instance, there are a bunch of full-length concerts posted which have retained much of their original quality in terms of both audio and video. Like this one I was watching earlier today: Phil Collins: Finally...The First Farewell Tour Live in Paris 2004

Excellent quality for YT. And, his performance of "In the Air Tonight" just kicks ASS! He just looks soooooo pissed and evil here...

Speaking of YT quality, or the lack thereof, listen to this little gem, Steve!

Pink Floyd- Live At Pompeii- Directors Cut These guys were the sound effects dudes. Unbelievable, what they were able to pull off in the 70's!

Damn! That was intense! I'd never seen or heard of that film/docu before. And to think it was made 40 years ago!!! Those guys are most definitely exploring the inner workings of their minds quite possibly with the help of some hallucinogenics.
Still, they succeeded at taking rock music to a place no one had ever gone with it before - or after.

It was a cassette tape of Aerosmith's Draw The Line at a record store in Germany. I still have that cassette too.

I received about 20 cds as birthday/christmas gifts to start my collection. But, as far as the first ever cd I bought on my own...my bro took me to my first cd show (which, ironically, was the last one my home state ever hosted) and he gave me some pointers on how to find 80's rock bands, (release date, band pics, look at the list of band members and look for solo projects, etc.) ...my first purchase: Lou Gramm "Long Hard Look," which turned out to be a really good AOR album (and at the time, out-of-print, though not rare.)

What about starting a new thread "First CD ever purchased" for us old foagies that already had a huge album, 8 track and cassette collection and start had to start over?

For the record, Dark Side of the Moon.

First album period was probably Danny Elfman's Batman soundtrack. First rock/pop album was Prince's Batman soundtrack.
