For all the complaining I do about AA...

...you can't beat the people I work with.

Some of you may remember a couple of years ago I made a post about a friend of mine who was hit broad side by a bus. His name is Jerry Gallimore. He's in this video at 3:15 wishing another fallen coworker well.

Steve Riel was diagnosed with West Nile Virus and Pneumonia. Days later, he came down with Guillain Barre Syndrome, which causes the body's immune system to shut down the central nervous system, so to speak. It renders it's victims paralyzed for the course of it's stay. Steve is, as I've heard today, improving.

We have a ramp angel named Sally that you'll see spraying bug spray on people in a salute to Steve that we're trying to stop West Nile Virus. She and and a guy named Mike made the video that is linked below. I don't know how strongly it will affect you, who don't know any of these people, but it was very touching to me.

Steve is the first person you see in the video. A great, great guy.

Thanks. I wasn't at work the day Sally and Mike filmed that. Actually, none of the people I work with every day were in it, so I may have not made it anyway.

I haven't had a Shiner in a while. I need to remedy that. :)

I heard all of his tubes are out and he was sitting up in a chair watching tv and stood for a bit. I've only known one other person (my cousin) that had Guillain Barre Syndrome, and it seemed to last for months and months. Steve's has been about 3 weeks. But that's great news.

Steve lost his battle last night. :(

I know my last post said he was doing better, and he was, but the Guillain Barre syndrome came back with a vengeance. He worsened for quite a while, then began doing better again. I heard he was sent home and was receiving in-home care and things were looking pretty good, but this morning I heard he had died. Not sure what happened. Just broke all of our hearts at work, who were sure he was going to be fine.
