Well, I wouldn't call it WW3 per se but.... mom loves show tunes - no matter the era, singer, etc., she just loved 'em! From Garland to Merman, from Rogers and Hammerstein to Grease. I think my dad's problem with them was the fact that my mom would sing along at the top of her lungs believing she sounded just like whomever was singing the song and she would have to do so with flair and drama and sort of acting out the lyrics if that makes sense. This irked my dad to the point that he would leave the room or sometimes the house even. Out of all of them, one in particular had the ability to actually change my dad's mood to the point you didn't to be around him - Liza Minnelli!
{{...thinking to myself...}}Why do I have the sudden urge to hear Cabaret...? Hmm....

This situation was more on track with really getting things riled up between mom and dad. First of all, I was raised in a very staunch Mormon household - don't judge...

I'm not anymore and haven't been since being voluntarily excommunicated when I was 18. Anyway, the kind of music allowed in my house was very closely monitored and restrictive. My dad's views of rock music was plain and simple: "It's what's wrong with the world today!" and "It's all the Devil's music!" And those were HIS own personal feelings! Add to that his Mormon idealism which dictated that every rock band's name was somehow associated with or was a derivative of Satan: RUSH = Rock Under Satan's Hand, KISS = Knights in Satan's Service, etc. and that all the lyrics had hidden messages for "today's youth" and you pretty much were left with.... well.... Show tunes!

Mom was a lot more relaxed about it which just drove my dad nuts. When he would come home undetected and I was listening to that devil shit he would go ballistic. Mom, of course would automatically come to my defense and feel her maternal need to protect me and here we go!!
