Watching it on tnt right now. This sure ain't the muppets christmas carol.
I watched that today too. He did an adequate job, but not a convincing job. The ghosts were lame. I have seen much better ghosts in early black and white versions. I love the story of "A Christmas Carol". It has a great message about not loving money and making mankind your business. The love of others as the theme for Christmas. I love the story and if it is done well it is a rich story. They cut out lots of the dialogue that was crucial to the story. It was a low budget piece I could tell. Patrick Stewart did O.K. but was not as gruff and hardened as a character as Scrooge was. Scrooge was a hot tempered insolent self absorbed miser. He would eat horrible food because he was such a skin flint he would not spend money on food. He would get stale bread at the store because it was cheap. He was cruel to the children in the city and hateful to everyone else. Patrick Stewart came across as mildly grumpy. Not quite Scroogey enough! LOL I love this story and there are some actors that have portrayed Scrooge better, but again bad ghosts. I have seen one or two versions with fantastic ghosts but with bad Scrooges! I wish someone would come up with a version that had excellent ghosts and a perfect Scrooge. Still waiting for a better version. We have the technology to really do the ghosts justice now.
