Samsung Sales/Profits are Unbelievable!

Postby JRNYMAN » Mon Jan 14, 2013 6:11 pm

This past week electronics mfrs. from around the globe gathered in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show - the largest trade show on the planet. And although I wasn't able to attend this year, I kept up on everything I possibly could via articles, videos, blogs, etc. If you're an electronics enthusiast of any kind or simply like to check out the latest and greatest in gadgetry, I highly recommend you add this showto your bucket list!

As the week progressed, one name that kept being repeated in nearly every category was Samsung's. It seemed like they had a device or product in literally every category. Not only that but the devices they unveiled for 2013 seemed to be show favorites as well! The new TV's are nothing short of amazing - including one which has not gone into production but was present at the show is their new "unbreakable" unit. You can bend, twist, flex, etc. it and it doesn't skip a pixel!

Their C.E.O., Stephen Woo, gave the opening night's keynote which was outstanding and revealed a lot about the coming trends and status quo in the electronics industry - especially the handheld divisions. It's no wonder they did $16 Billion in business in handheld devices alone in Q3 of last year!! Let me restate that so it sinks in.... they had sales of $16 Billion dollars between July - September of last year in just the handheld division. That doesn't count TV's, stereos, appliances, etc.

And speaking of handheld devices, there's a great article that just hit the wire from AP regarding their Galaxy S smartphones sales topping 100,000,000 units.

Samsung sells 100 million Galaxy S smartphones
(AP) – 33 minutes ago

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Samsung Electronics says global sales of its Galaxy S smartphone series surpassed 100 million units since the first model was launched less than three years ago.

The South Korean firm said Monday it sold more than 25 million Galaxy S smartphones, 40 million Galaxy S II smartphones and 41 million Galax S III smartphones in the last three years.

Samsung rolled out the first Galaxy S model at the end of May 2010, scrambling to catch up with Apple, which was reshaping the market with the iPhone.

Despite a late entry, Samsung quickly caught up the U.S. firm and became the biggest smartphone maker.

Galaxy S series achieved the 100-million-sales milestone faster than Apple's iPhone. It took about four years for Apple to sell more than 100 million iPhones.

That one billion dollar fine they suffered in court for copying Apple was worth it for what they got out of the deal. Basically a split with Apple of the whole smartphone market with over 100 billion in profit.

I've got a Samsung Note (the original one) and am thrilled with it. Tablet, Ereader and smartphone all rolled into one. Since I don't mind using blu-tooth like some people, I have no issues answering calls in public with it.

America should get a S. Korea credit card with a balance transfer option and tell China to fuck off!

Think they'll give a zero percent interest option for six months with no anual fee? :D

No question they've got their thumb on the pulse of what consumers want and are willing to spend their $$ on. I have no idea the count of how many new items were revealed at the show this year but as I mentioned earlier, it seems like they had multiple devices in nearly every category! Their new 110-inch Ultra HD TV was a major hit as you can imagine.
The thing I'm curious about is how they manage to produce the unreal numbers of all the things they sell. I mean take the 100 Mil smartphones they stamped out over the past 18 mos. or so.... that's a helluva lot of devices coming off an assembly line somewhere. I'd be very surprised if Stephen Woo isn't the next Steve Jobs.

Samsung is very diverse. They also make Oil Tankers. One good thing they are doing is expanding their chip plant in Austin Texas helping create some jobs down there.
