The file upload limits are low like box.com but if you are not averse to packing/splitting zip files, it's a decent data backup solution.

The site is getting crush with registrations right now but by tomorrow you should be able to get in fairly quickly.

Low-profile owner of NZ Web domain company tapped as Mega CEO

Instra execs are investors in Mega—but Kim Dotcom is merely an "advisor." Instra execs are investors in Mega—but Kim Dotcom is merely an "advisor."

The world's most eccentric Internet fugitive, Kim Dotcom, is preparing to roll out his new Mega service to the world on Sunday evening (which will be late Saturday on the west coast of the US). Thursday night, a Dotcom spokesman announced that Tony Lentino, the owner of a New Zealand Web domain-name company called Instra Corp., will be the CEO of the new cloud storage service.

Instra is going to provide billing and tech support for Mega, according to a press release on the company's site. "The new Mega promises a revolution in online privacy with one-click encryption for every user, creating a secure online cloud data haven for Internet users across the globe," said Instra CEO Brian Clarkson.

Lentino doesn't have much of a public profile—no press reports or profiles are to be found. He's the owner of Instra, and up through at least December 2011 he was the company's CEO as well. New Zealand's National Business Review (NBR) reports that Lentino was born in Napier, New Zealand and lives on a 383-hectare property with its own landing strip. Instra was founded in 1997 and is based in Melbourne, Australia as well as Auckland, New Zealand.

Instra's main business is selling Web addresses, mostly outside New Zealand—300 country domains in all. It's one of the few companies to sell domain names for most of the world's countries, Clarkson told NBR. He added that Instra pulls in about $NZ20 million annually, which is around US$16.7 million.

Clarkson added that he isn't worried about the legal troubles that Dotcom—whom the US is trying to extradite on criminal copyright charges—finds himself in. "It's quite clear in our minds the court process will resolve itself in Kim's favor," he told NBR.

Clarkson and Lentino are also both investors in Mega. “Mega is owned by a number of investors based in New Zealand, Australia and Luxembourg,” Clarkson told TechCrunch. He added that Kim Dotcom doesn't own any part of the company, and is simply an "advisor" to the business.
