I actually thought it was fun and enjoyed most of it, but I wasn't looking for a critically acclaimed Journey concert, as I knew it wouldn't be.

He looks tired and defiantly beat up. Such is life on the road and what these songs do to an already ailing voice. Just rest up and Arnel can carry out his tenure in grace whenever that time comes. Dude just came in cold after experiencing operations to the voice. As someone said, this was the bands first outing back so there's room to tighten it up.
Neal's latest revelations regarding the band's direction and the decision not to release any new albums for the foreseeable future (See my post from earlier today: http://forums.melodicrock.com/phpBB/vie ... hp?t=56759 ) and to instead record only a couple for movies, speaks loudly and clearly, to me anyway, that Neal & Co. have set the wheels in motion towards winding down and working on their exit strategy. It's my sincere hope that whenever the farewell tour is announced that Arnel's voice still has the strength, health and clarity to take Journey's catalog into the stratosphere one more time. But, if last night's performance was any indication of just how damaged Arnel's voice has become, I'd say a farewell tour isn't going to happen. As I said earlier in another post, last night was their first night back after a LONG hiatus. Arnel should have sounded perfect!YoungJRNY wrote:I understand their situation. This band seriously has nowhere else to go. Though in their stride to the public when it comes to the DSB-craze (and the popular story of Arnel now without its trademark pzazz) they simply are a legendary nostalgia-act waiting to close it out in only a few more years. They had a PHENOMENAL run from 2008-present but you seriously can't expect anymore from them pushing forward. I just hope Arnel can last and have one more surge in him so I can see them a few more times before the final solute. I'm okay with this. People need to respect their last horrah as a mega-touring band. Arnel's not going to hold on forever and Steve Perry is never coming back. Only thing left to do, is sing along. I can live with that.

oh for sure they looked to be having a blast... but they sounded like shit.
Apparently it's acceptable now for the bands we expect to be above average to now be just "average".. because with all the modern technology available for them to be in key.. there is no excuse for what we just saw....

Last time the call was made, wasn't it Perry who made it? I'm fairly certain Jon won't be calling Perry any time soon. The rest of his career is going to be made in Nashville. My guess would be that Journey tours the rest of this year and next year, then they hang it up......if Arnel can even perform for that long. I still think Arnel has a career ahead of him if he can get in with a good band that doesn't have such ridiculously high notes in their catalog.
