Sorry to point out the elephant, but he was a massive alcoholic who completely let himself go. Go Youtubing and find recent videos of the sad state that Gary allowed himself to fall into. In recent years, he barely deserved to be in a bar band, let alone REO. So, to say they suck without him is so over simplified because they would have sucked even more with him.
And, yes, a death is not a time to drag that person through all of the negatives of his life experience. But, it is also not a time to drag down others in an attempt to prop him up. Gary was in charge of leading his own destiny...and he made the choice to die as an ex member of REO.
And, frankly, his life should be a lesson to any aging alcoholics out there. It's not a pretty sight at the end of that road. Get off it.
