Guitar Center on the brink of bankruptcy?

Postby tj » Wed Apr 25, 2018 8:08 am

An interesting article about the state of Guitar Center. More interesting to me is that the current state of popular music is so much based on not needing a guitar. Or really any instruments for that matter. BTW, Gibson guitars is facing an almost certain bankruptcy as well. Someone will buy the Gibson assets and the brand will continue, but the state of the guitar world is not good.

I was reading posts about guitar center on a guitar blog and former employees just hated it there. Another guy went in to get a $5 set of strings and he said that they tried to sell him an extended warranty on them. I have been in there a couple of times and didn't care for the staff or environment of the store. In a downturn market like they are in, service is critical. Theirs is pretty poor. Apparently management forgot to send the memo.

I went there to buy a gift guitar and had to chase the workers down to get any help. Everyone with a sour face so it must suck to work there.

This reminded me of a video I saw with Tom Petty in it. Not guitar center but funny how Petty got tired of being filmed and exited at 2:35
